The Filtration & Waste Stream Coordinator will assist in the collection and control of all forms of hazardous, special or general waste generated within the plant operations, grinding lines and filtration systems. Ensure proper methods for packaging, labeling and storage are followed per EPA regulations within plant facilities.

Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks

  • It is essential the waste streams created as a result of the grinding and polishing processes be properly controlled. Final disposal costs for hazardous waste streams have a direct impact on a company's financial performance.
  • The coordinator will maintain segregation of the varying waste streams. Some will be classified as hazardous waste, some special waste and normal waste as directed by the EHS Manager.
  • Work with EHS Manager to implement Lean Principles and reduce our environmental footprint.
  • Work with EHS Manager and outside sources to expand hazardous waste handling knowledge, as well as state and local regulations.
  • Monitor the grinding lines swarf generation for both the Magnesium and Zinc/Copper lines. Hoffman and magnesium Rosedale filters.
  • Awareness of the water and moisture contamination dangers of these waste streams is critical to safe handling and storage.
  • Waste streams include but may not be limited to:
    • Magnesium swarf generated at the 24" and 48" grinding lines.
    • Copper/Zinc swarf generated at the 30" grinding line.
    • Waste oily floor dry and absorption materials.
    • Waste oil generated from the grind lines.
    • Waste filter collection socks. (3 separate waste stream classifications)
    • 6 mill swarf
    • Paint waste
  • Coordinate movement of waste material from production area to designated waste caged storage area. Manage other daily activity by using visual management of the waste caged storage area.
  • Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly inventory records of waste classifications and quantities generated.
  • Coordinate the swarf compression briquetting operation to recover oil and magnesium from the waste stream.
  • Maintain a safe working environment with daily housekeeping.
  • Coordinate equipment issues/repairs with Maintenance within your area of responsibility
  • Assist with Quarterly wastewater sampling
  • All other duties as assigned through EHS Manager.
Hours of work
  • Normal hours are currently 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.


Education/Experience

Education, Training, & Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent and experience with vacuum filter systems and Rosedale Kettle filter systems desired.
    • Certifications: OSHA Environmental Safety, RCRA, DOT, and 40 Hazwoper.(Must maintain all certifications with required annual refresher course).
