AUI is currently seeking a motivated individual to grow with us in our Largo office.


Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant)


Department: Physician Practice

Reports to: Physicians (Dr. Matthew Truesdale and Dr. Christopher Sherman)

Supervises: None

Overtime Status: Exempt


GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Advanced Practitioner will provide high quality urologic care under the supervision of Drs Truesdale and Sherman. The provider will see both new consults in the hospital setting and see patients in the clinic performing physical exams, chart review, form an appropriate treatment plan and communicate these plans with the patient. The provider will be trained to perform certain urologic procedures, prescribe appropriate medical therapy and counsel patients on their treatment plan. All work and training will be done under the supervision of Drs Truesdale and Sherman.


RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

- Acts as the primary physician extender for Drs. Truesdale and Sherman.

- Manages an outpatient clinic and rounds on patients in the hospital.

- Provide patient care and appropriately document findings and care rendered per expectations.

- Obtain clinically relevant history and physical, progress notes, and discharge summaries to document care given to patient.

- Ensures all pertinent data in patient charts are counter-signed by the supervising physician.

- Coordinates advanced diagnostic and therapeutic patient care procedures by assisting with the technical and medical aspects of simulation and treatment planning.

- Family counseling.

- Counsels patients in preventive care.

- Assists with management of unscheduled patient visits.

- Assists with the management of emergency patient treatments.

- Performs urologic procedures under the supervision of Drs. Truesdale and Sherman.

- Manages daily patient problems as necessary and documents care implemented.

- Can initiate emergency resuscitation and stabilizing measures.

- Administers or orders medication as requested by supervising physician.

- Responds to physician patient calls.

- Takes hospital call under the supervision of Dr. Truesdale and Sherman 1 weekend per month and 2 weekdays per month.

- Attend all clinic meetings as required.

- Seeks assistance to provide quality patient care and meet centers' patient care objectives.

- Maintain patient privacy, patient identity, and patient confidentiality and personnel information on current and former staff members. Must be aware of The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

- Participates in educational activities.

- Maintains patient confidentiality.

- Act as team player: collaborate, communicate clearly, and cooperate with AUI (Advanced Urology Institute) team members with focus on mission and goals of AUI.

- Enhances communications by consistently displaying excellent customer service skills in behavior and attitude.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

- 1-2 years previous relevant clinical experience in surgery or medicine.

Skills:

-Display exceptional customer service skills.

- Understanding the implications of latest Guidelines to inform patient care decision-making.

- Maintains patient and team member privacy and confidentiality.

- Spanish fluency desired but not required.

Abilities:

- Be an exceptional multi-tasker and meet tight deadlines.

- Follows all policies and procedures including safety and infection control.

- Demonstrates tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity in communications.

- Interested in learning high quality Urologic care and procedures.




EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Normal clinical office environment and hospital environment.

MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Adequate hearing to perform job duties in person and over the telephone. Able to use stethoscope and respond to verbal questions. Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone. Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patient and reading information from printed sources and computer screens. Most work performed standing. Walking to and from inpatient units and various departments.

Requirements:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:

-Must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the state of Florida, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body.

- Current Basic Life Support certification (BLS).

- Certification by the State of Florida.
