Position Overview:

As a Junior Test Engineer at SMTC, you'll be at the forefront of transforming customer requirements into innovative hardware and software test solutions. Your role extends beyond traditional testing; you'll actively engage in problem-solving, continuous improvement, and mentorship to shape the future of electronic testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Translate customer requirements into comprehensive hardware and software test specifications, setting the stage for groundbreaking testing solutions.
  • Develop test stations aligned with customer specifications, considering cost as a key design variable.
  • Perform functional, environmental, and performance tests on hardware and systems, ensuring quality control measures are established.
  • Investigate yield detractors, provide detailed root cause findings, and contribute to data-driven decision-making.
  • Train and instruct floor support, test technicians, and operators on test hardware, software, and effective problem-solving techniques.
  • Actively engage and lead continuous improvement activities, fostering an environment of innovation and efficiency.
  • Organize the test lab, maintain and calibrate test fixtures and equipment, ensuring a conducive environment for testing excellence.
  • Set up and maintain ICT and Flying Probe equipment and fixtures, create and debug Flying Probe programs, and modify ICT programs for optimal performance.
  • Qualify ICT fixtures, assist with creating validation procedures, and perform validation processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or STEM. Alternatively, a B.S. with 2+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Test Engineering Technician in OEM/EMS.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Proficiency with MS Office suite. General instrumentation hardware and software knowledge.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Perl) and object-oriented languages (e.g., C++, Java).
  • Familiarity with LabVIEW and National Instruments hardware.
  • Experience with databases and SQL.
  • Exposure to AutoCAD, solid modeling software, and PCB layout design.
  • Knowledge of Mil-Std-810F environmental testing.
  • Soldering (IPC J-STD-001 certification) and electronics inspection (IPC A-610 certification).
