Nurse Manager Job Description


Philadelphia FIGHT Pediatrics provides comprehensive and culturally effective health care to children of all ages. The Youth Health Empowerment Project Health Center (YHEP) provides primary care, sexual health services, including gender-affirming care, to adolescents and young adults ages 13-26. The YHEP/Pediatrics clinic functions as one clinic with two sides sharing front desk, medical assistants, and nursing resources as well as providers who work together to care for patients across the age continuum from 0-26 years old.


We are seeking an experienced nurse to serve as the nurse manager for the Pediatric and Adolescent Health Center at Philadelphia FIGHT. The ideal candidate has remarkable interpersonal skills. They should be emotionally intelligent, hard-working, reliable, computer savvy, well-connected and open to new ideas. This person will take a trauma-informed, patient-centered approach to working with families.


Qualifications: The Nurse Manager will have a bachelor's degree in nursing and an RN license. General knowledge based in science, medicine, and the running of a medical clinic. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with primary care staff, patients, and other behavioral health counselors. The Nurse Manager must be able to demonstrate judgment, patience, integrity, organization, and prioritization in multi-task environment. Needs to have attention to detail, dependability and flexibility.


Responsibilities include:

Clinical (0.50 FTE):

  • Administer therapeutic injections and vaccinations and perform phlebotomy when needed.
  • Perform clinical tasks as needed (e.g. point of care tests, rooming patients, EKG, nebulizer treatments, newborn screens, etc.).
  • Coordinate patient care needs with specialists, consultants, birth hospitals, case managers, insurance companies, durable medical equipment providers, the health departments, and other external partners involved in a child's care.
  • Occasionally assist medical providers and or pharmacist with prior authorizations for medications, procedures, and diagnostic imaging.
  • Manage all CLIA related tasks such as running of controls and ordering of point of care testing.
  • Triage sick/emergency walk-ins and phone calls.
  • Communicate labs results to patients, if appropriate upon request of the medical provider.
  • Assist with one-on-one patient education for patients with multiple diagnoses, complicated medical regimens, and/or complex social needs.
  • Coordinate with the quality department and the medical director to track high risk and complex patients to ensure compliance to care.
  • Disclose reportable diseases to the health department.
  • Complete all charting and billing documentation in the EMR within 24 hours.

Administrative (0.50 FTE):

Supervisory and Training Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise all YHEP/pediatric medical assistants and the other YHEP/Peds nurse.
  • Ensure that the clinics are adequately staffed with medical assistants during every clinical session. Provide clinical back up to the medical assistants on days when short staffing is anticipated.
  • Provide ongoing training and quality assurance of medical assistant competencies.
  • Onboard and train new Pediatric and YHEP medical assistants.
  • Maintain personnel files for all supervised staff and perform annual competency reviews.
  • Ensure that staff and the physical plant remains compliant with relevant healthcare standards, such as HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, VFC, HRSA, Title X, PCMH and other federal and state provisions.
  • Coordinate and monitor inventory and supply ordering, including monitoring for expiration of supplies and maintenance of clinic medical equipment. Collaborate with nursing to ensure that appropriate medical supplies are ordered.
  • Interact closely with the other clinicians in the practice, Practice Manager, Administrative Director and Medical Director, by participating in regular meetings for purposes of addressing management issues and quality assurance.
  • Lead daily huddles where staffing and patient care coordination is reviewed.

Program Management

  • Co-manage the YHEP/pediatric VFC program.

Outreach and Growth

  • Assist the pediatric medical director and practice manager in developing and improving clinical workflows.

Other: Initial probationary period is three months. Performance of other tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis.

Salary range: Competitive; Hourly

Travel Requirements: Minimal local travel required between Philadelphia FIGHT Health Centers.

Work Hours: 40 Hours/Week (M-F 9:00am - 5:00pm)
