For over 75 years, the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Leandro has been a cornerstone of the San Leandro and greater East Bay community. We provide a range of programs, including after-school programming, school break day camps, and summer camps, to youth ages 4-18 years old. PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the COO, the Director of Safety and Operations will assist the Leadership Team in planning, coordinating, implementing, and maintaining the health and safety of the organization’s youth, staff, and facilities. The incumbent will lead and design key initiatives and provide guidance to the organization and its partners through expert-level recommendations, training, consultations, and advocacy to support safety and operational needs.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide guidance to COO and leadership team to ensure the organization is provided with timely and relevant recommendations in all areas of child and club safety.
  • Work with necessary stakeholders on risk management, loss prevention, premise security, transportation safety, internet safety, incident management, and other related systems and issues.
  • Liaison to organization’s partnerships to support youth safety in our community.
  • Oversees daily operations within the role's scope while occasionally an active participant in tasks alongside the team.
  • Audit and manage controls on all transportation, maintenance, facility, and inventory logs.
  • Design and implement the club safety platform and coordinate safety-related meetings, conferences, initiatives, projects, and training for the organization on best practices and strategies related to child protection and operations. Audit for continuity or processes across the organization.
  • Maintain and analyze all relevant reporting and records within the scope with a focus on timely and accurate data.
  • Partner cross-functionally within all departments of the organization, and serve as mentor & strategic leader.
  • Partner closely with the C-Suite, leadership team, and HR to cultivate a strong safety-first organizational culture.
  • Apply Continuous improvement and efficiency philosophy to all departments under purview.
  • Responsible for overseeing facilities operations, which includes building management, safety and security system(s), and maintaining vendors and functions as needed.
  • Accountable for strategic planning & budget management in functional areas.
  • Supervise lease and contract renewal, termination, and expansion of facility selection processes, including construction.
  • Guide functional teams through all phases of projects to completion, meeting deadlines & budget.
  • Development of compliance and policies, streamlining process efficiencies & internal controls.
  • Other duties, projects, and responsibilities as assigned.


Management & Administration

  • Lead the Safety and Ops department’s strategic planning process, including annual budgeting and departmental staffing plan in partnership with the COO
  • Recruit, hire, and manage department staff and supporting consultants
  • Oversee direct report work plans to ensure initiatives are executed with excellence
  • Proactively establish and maintain effective working relationships with all departments and clubs across the organization and external partners
  • Fulfill all manager responsibilities related to performance management, including conducting performance reviews and talent surveys.


Risk Mitigation: Oversee risk management, including all organizational insurance coverage, managing the policies and renewals, and partner with internal stakeholders as required.

Technology: Oversee IT and computer policies, security, resources, software, connectivity, and support either in-house or through an IT support vendor.

Tools and Systems: Identify and lead the implementation of tools and templates that support logistics, project management, information sharing, collaboration, fiscal management, and record-keeping with internal and external partners.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience of 7 years required. Nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Passion for working with diverse teams in children and youth environments across multiple functional areas.
  • Proven proficiency in building collaborative partnerships with internal & and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in leading, mentoring & and training team members, including staff planning, decision-making, facilitating, and process improvement.
  • In-depth understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging; experience creating inclusive organizational culture and its impact on organizational results
  • Proficiency in operational process improvement, establishing internal controls & and filling the gaps as needed with products and services.
  • Experience managing an organization’s operations, including IT management, facilities management, safety, and general operations.
  • Strong ability to translate big-picture, long-term, strategic thinking into short-term project planning.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple projects, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines and goals for the organization.
  • Advanced Communication skills, written, verbal and presentational accompanied by an analytical and problem-solving mindset.
