Hospitality Assistant- Nursing Department of Lutheran Retirement Home

Exempt Non Exempt X .

Full Time Part Time X

This position requires a minimum 5 hours per day 25 per week

Purpose of this position

The purpose of this position is to serve, support and assist with meeting the residents’ psychological, safety and quality of life needs.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Delegation of authority: Director of Nursing

Job Description:

  • Assists residents while providing no “hands on” direct care. And communicates the needs of the residents to the charge person.
  • Provides emotional support to residents in the form of listening, or sitting with confused or dying residents.
  • Assists in promoting attendance to activities of residents and may assist in the activity as well as transportation to and from the activity.
  • Assists residents in writing of letters, reading or transportation outside the facility per direction of charge person.
  • Works as a team player, supports other positions as needed, and will take direction from many sources.
  • Utilizes infection control protocols for handwashing, use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and sanitization of work areas/high traffic areas.
  • Assists in dining room. Takes resident meal orders, and delivers room trays, and assists in clearing tables and setting tables.
  • Pass out clean linens and picks up dirty linens.
  • Assist with nourishments/beverages.
  • Answers call bells.
  • Transports residents to Podiatrist, Dentist, Optometrist, Hairdresser within Lutheran as needed.
  • Stocks incontinence products, and resident care items in rooms such as emesis and wash basins, etc. as needed with labeling done as needed.
  • Fill and/or change water pitchers as needed.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects, as assigned.
  • Participate in all mandatory training and some voluntary training as directed.
  • Attends meetings as directed.
  • Runs errands for unit as directed.
  • Informs Charge Person before leaving unit.
  • Observes 30 min break for meal as assigned by charge nurse.
  • Reports daily to Charge Person for assignments, and after meals and break times.
  • Follows appropriate chain of command through Charge Person, Care Manager and Director of Clinical Services.
  • Makes beds for residents, turns down beds and retrieves bedding from laundry as needed and directed.
  • Organizes residents’ dresser drawers and closets, assured that personal clothing is neat and orderly for all residents, with residents’ permission.
  • Asks CNA’S and/or nurses- “What can I do to help you?”-offer assistance when designated duties are complete.
  • Observe privacy & confidentiality rights of residents. DOES NOT discuss resident issues/problems off unit.
  • Safety – Follows required safety procedures.
  • In-services – Attends all required in-service training.
  • Other duties as assigned
