Who we need:

To ensure provision of necessary and appropriate healthcare, the provider shall maintain the following medical staff:
  1. Registered Nurse (RN):

RN's shall have an active and clear Florida license in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statute. The RN shall have the responsibility of training as per 64B9-14 F.A.C. and oversight of the licensed practical nurse as well as non-healthcare for the process of assisting with the delivery of medication.

Primary Duties / Responsibilities:
  1. A Registered Nurse shall have direct oversight over each temporary shelter facility to include on-site a minimum of one (1) hour weekly to maintain appropriate supervision. Specific times for the described nursing services will be coordinated with the shelter director to allow flexibility in meeting the needs of the youth and shelter.
  2. RN oversight duties shall include but are not limited to the weekly and as needed review of the following:
  3. Medication discrepancy,
  4. Medication errors and omissions,
  5. review of the knowledge portal, Review of all CCC (Central Communication Center) reporting,
  6. General review of all youth with reported Chronic Health Conditions,
  7. Weekly admissions and;
  8. Training plan including check off for non-licensed staff.
  9. Registered Nurses shall not perform duties beyond the scope of their practice and training.
  10. Nursing responsibilities shall include but are not limited to:
  11. A minimum of 20 (twenty) hours per week on site
  12. Documentation of youth's healthcare status upon admission:
  13. Provide episodic and emergency care while on site. Youth that require care beyond the scope of practice and available on-site first aid for minor injuries or illness must be referred to the emergency room or call for EMS/911 assistance. When a licensed nurse is not on site, the program will follow standard policy and procedure governing medical and mental health concerns for non-licensed staff. The licensed nurse may not be utilized as an on-call medical resource.
  14. Provide health education for youth, parents/guardian and staff on specific medications, chronic and acute health conditions which are within their scope of practice and education.
  15. Medication Management Process: The Licensed Nurse is responsible for the oversight and management of medication distribution, secure storage and accountability of medications. This includes the following:
  16. Medication Administration during on-site hours. When the licensed Nurse is on-site, medications shall be administered only by the Licensed Nurse, unless the Licensed Nurse is observing the non-licensed staff as part of competency verification as outlined in 64B9-14 F.A.C.
  17. Ensuring non-licensed staff are trained, and understand the both the theory and the practice of the delegated task. The delegated task of assisting with the self-administration of medications during hours when nursing staff are not on-site. The responsibility of training and verification of competency of non-licensed staff in this task may not be delegated to a non-licensed staff.
  18. Verification of youths' medications brought to the shelter. This shall include communication with the youths' community pharmacy, medical provider and parent/guardian.
  19. Management of the Pyxis medication storage system, including medication inventory counts. The counts shall be conducted by the licensed nurse and assigned non-licensed staff persons trained to assist in the self-administration of medication and counting system. The nurse is responsible for verification of counts of all stored medications when on site. Counts shall be verified by non-licensed staff against the verified count within the Pyxis machine when licensed nursing staff are not on site.
  20. Monitoring and review of the Medication Distribution Logs (MDL) by licensed nursing staff during each on-site encounter shall be completed, to ensure that medications are being provided as prescribed.
  21. Reorder of over the counter stock medications and first aid supplies.
  22. Monitoring of medication side effects when administering medications.
  23. The Registered Nurse will have the responsibility of conducting Root Cause analysis of medication errors, including omissions of medications.
  24. Assist with the development and implementation of applicable Universal Precautions and Infection control standards. Education of the youth and staff regarding infection control standards may also be the responsibility of the licensed nurse.
  25. Staff and youth education and training regarding acute and chronic health conditions, wellness, exercise and fitness, dietary and nutritional needs of adolescents within the licensed nurses' scope of training and education as outlined in chapter 464.003 F.S.
  26. Assist with the Review and evaluation of all medical CCC incidents pertaining to the Registered Nurse's assigned CNS/FINS Shelter. The Registered Nurse shall assist with recommendations about corrective action to be taken to correct deficiencies and address issues in response to these incidents.
  27. Assist with evaluate CCC reporting information data collected through Care Fusion Knowledge Portal to identify emerging medical concerns and trends.
  28. Assist the CINS/FINS Shelter Program Director and staff with the Quality Improvement Process, including guidance regarding Health Care standards.
