We would love to have you join our proud team at the Highlands Ranch Metro District! Work with great people in a fun environment as a seasonal Parkways Irrigation Technician. This position primarily helps with the maintenance of the irrigation system for the beautiful landscaping along our parkways, however, there are many opportunities to learn new skills and other trades to build your resume.

Who are we?

We care for the many beautiful parks, trails, open spaces, and landscape along the major streets that make Highlands Ranch such a great community. We provide outdoor sports and activities in our many parks and care for the historic Highlands Ranch Mansion and grounds. All our seasonal positions offer you the opportunity to work with a dedicated and experienced group of park and recreation professionals, outdoors, in the beautiful parks, trails, and open spaces of Highlands Ranch.

Our seasonal positions are highly valued and help us continue providing the Highlands Ranch community with outstanding parks and recreation programs and services. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operations of buildings, grounds, parks, irrigation, open space, and forestry.
  • Complies with District and industry related safety policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure the safety of self, co-workers, parkways users and the community.
  • Parkways related maintenance including but not limited to care of plant material, maintenance of parkway landscape, landscape projects, various equipment operation, minor construction projects, litter control, weed eradication, irrigation, snow removal, and assists with special events.
  • May operate and maintain specialized equipment and tools as listed below under “Tools and Equipment Used”.
  • Fulfills alternate duties and responsibilities as required or assigned by Supervisor.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Follow direction from lead techs occasionally working independently to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Understand, follow, and transmit written and verbal instructions.
  • Establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must possess a valid State of Colorado driver's license or can obtain one prior to employment.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the direct supervision of the Parkways Supervisor and Lead Technicians.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Lawn and landscape equipment including pickup truck with automatic transmission, trailers, tractors, mowers, aerators, edgers, weed trimmers, seeders, sprayers, spreaders, utility vehicles, blowers, high pressure washer, pruning tools, miscellaneous hand and power tools for turf maintenance, carpentry, and painting. Cell phone, computer, and general office equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, and smell.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and near moving mechanical parts. The employee frequently is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

WORK SCHEDULE

Generally, works between 6:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work schedules will vary depending on weather conditions, projects, events, programs, meetings, and staffing levels, and will include some evening, early morning, weekend, and overtime hours. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
