The UNCF Advocacy Team will offer a rewarding experience for a K-12 Advocacy Coordinator. The ideal candidate will not only have a passion for education, but for program development and event management.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Assist in tracking finance, budget and accounting processes.
Monitor changes and news in the K-16 landscape nationally and in targeted cities to maintain a pulse on the relevant issues and the implications for UNCF’s advocacy strategy and target city involvement.
Assist in identifying and recommending opportunities for UNCF to demonstrate leadership on African-American K-16 educational issues.
Schedule and coordinate meetings and events.
Update and manage an accurate, neat, orderly filing system from which files can be easily retrieved; update and maintain records on an ongoing basis.
Coordinate internal meeting arrangements, including schedule conference rooms, set up refreshments; assemble necessary background material for scheduled meetings.
Prepare and handle routine correspondence, including confidential matters.
Attend meetings and take clear and concise minutes.
Assist and provide support with developing social media content and coverage for local education events (Twitter and Facebook posts, blogs, etc.).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university preferred; least two to four years of experience in K-12 education reform organizations and/or activities desired.
Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks/projects.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to prioritization of and recommendations on appointments.
Strong organizational skills.
Thoroughness and careful attention to detail.
Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner and works well under pressure and handles stress.
