The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Senior Advocacy Communications Specialist supports advocacy communications strategies that advance legislative priorities, elevate WWP's voice on veterans' policy issues, and support campaign rollouts. This role contributes to media relations, earned media initiatives, and communications planning for federal and state advocacy efforts, including policy launches, congressional activity, and advocacy events. Working cross-functionally, the Senior Advocacy Communications Specialist helps execute coordinated, brand-aligned communications, supports rapid response efforts, and prepares warrior advocates to share their stories in support of policy goals.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to the execution of advocacy communications and media plans that advance WWP's federal and state legislative priorities and strengthen grassroots advocacy efforts.
- Coordinate and support media engagement by developing materials, monitoring coverage, contributing to rapid response efforts aligned with approved messaging, and positioning the organization as a trusted voice on veterans' policy issues.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Beltway, national, and key local media, including reporters, editors, producers, podcasters, influencers, government communications counterparts, and partner organizations.
- Execute communications for high-profile advocacy moments, including policy rollouts, congressional action, advocacy fly-ins, earned media opportunities, and public events.
- Partner with Advocacy Campaigns and internal teams to align communications tactics with campaign strategy, ensuring communications considerations are integrated into planning.
- Contribute to the development of executable advocacy campaign plans, including messaging frameworks, timelines, deliverables, and integrated channel strategies.
- Execute integrated advocacy marketing and communications tactics across channels including email, web, social, print, and earned media to mobilize supporters and amplify legislative priorities.
- Execute advocacy-focused social media strategies that extend earned media moments, reinforce messaging, and drive engagement.
- Train, prepare, and support warrior advocates to engage confidently with media, connect personal stories to policy priorities, and represent WWP effectively in high-visibility settings.
- Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to develop clear, compelling, and accessible messaging for policymakers, media, and supporters.
- Track, analyze, and report on advocacy communications performance, using insights to recommend improvements and inform future efforts.
- Support team workflows, coordination, and consistent execution of advocacy communications initiatives.
- Attend and actively participate in required training and/or meetings, including but not limited to New Teammate Orientation, WWP Cares, ASIST Suicide Prevention training, Leadership training, culture/team based training, or departmental huddles.
- Other related duties as assigned.

- Experience working on Capitol Hill or with a federal agency.
