Traffic Control Operator/Traffic Management Operator

Job Description:

The Traffic Management Operator is an entry-level position responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of traffic, monitoring roadways for incidents and congestion, and responding accordingly. This role involves operating computer-based traffic management systems, monitoring CCTV surveillance cameras, and coordinating with various agencies to manage incidents effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Operate various computer-based traffic management systems under supervision and according to established procedures.
2. Monitor roadways using CCTV surveillance cameras and detection systems.
3. Monitor all traffic devices and computer equipment associated with the traffic management system.
4. Maintain knowledge of the operation of traffic equipment, computers, and software.
5. Utilize traffic equipment for incident management and improving travel time and safety.
6. Ensure accuracy and validity of messages displayed on Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) and 511 systems.
7. Enter incident information into computer systems using traffic software.
8. Familiarize oneself with roadways and the purpose and location of traffic devices.
9. Alert operator staff to new and existing memos and communicate with partners and adjacent Traffic Management Centers.
10. Dispatch Service Patrols and assist them with various tasks.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic computer skills and proficiency in operating computer-based systems.
• Strong communication skills to coordinate with various agencies and partners.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Knowledge of traffic management principles and procedures is a plus.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
