POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for coordinating and performing various shipping, receiving deliveries and pickups. Duties will also include light general building maintenance and cleaning. While much of the position is physical in nature, good communication and computer skills with the ability to problem solve are critical. The person will need a valid driver's license and good driving record. Must be able to pass a security check.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Prepare and ship all outgoing items such as tested specimens, excess material, raw materials, and equipment.
- Create the necessary documents for all shipping, both domestic and international, according to customer instructions.
- Responsible for scheduling the pick-up by the carrier specified on the customer’s purchase order, which is conveyed via the shipping instructions.
- Receive and document all incoming deliveries and distribute using multiple computer systems and databases.
- Responsible for the receipt and disposal of chemicals, materials and adhesives, including the proper logging and tracking of the certifications & MSDS sheets.
- Make local pickups and deliveries using a company vehicle.
- Resolve shipping issues with carriers.
- Responsible for maintaining the company vehicle servicing and cleanliness.
- Responsible for the forklift maintenance and operation log.
- Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies
- Operates lift trucks, scissors lift or hand trucks to convey, move or hoist materials to proper departments, areas or repairs.
- Maintains the work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
- Provide light building maintenance support (for example but not limited to light bulb replacement, general cleaning, small repairs and company functions).
- Assist the machine shop with waste oil handling/scheduling, post-test burn off from specimens, and general items.
- Assist the lab with environmental gas cradle/tank exchange, environmental water filter service schedule and general items.
- Assist the admin group with record storage, coordination of project request and general items.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching and climbing. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds unassisted. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma
- 1+ years of shipping/receiving experience
- Forklift and scissors lift operator a plus
QUALIFICATIONS
A valid driver’s license and a good driving record (age 25 minimum)
Ability to perform detailed work accurately and thoroughly
Ability to perform tasks in an organized and methodical manner
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to multi-task
Ability to operate a forklift for shipping-receiving and other equipment
Ability to navigate within courier computer-based systems and internal data bases
Effective communication, including writing, speaking and interpersonal communication
Hand and eye coordination
Demonstrate proficient PC skills
Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
Pass security background check
