ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Read Better Be Better is an education nonprofit organization focused on solving Arizona's literacy crisis. We work with partnering schools throughout the state to connect young readers and youth leaders to inspire a love of literacy and learning. Since 2014, we have served thousands of Arizona students through our reading programs in over 60 schools across Maricopa County and multiple community-based organizations across throughout Arizona. Each school semester, we have expanded to serve even more kids, schools, and families. We are a mission-driven, collaborative community of passionate, creative, and flexible professionals, and we welcome and support those seeking internship experience with RBBB for their professional development.

Job Title: Community Engagement Intern

Reports To: Community Site Coordinator

Department: Program Department-Pathways and Community-Based Organizations

Work Hours: A minimum weekly commitment of 10-15 hours is required. Interns will be expected to commit to a set schedule within the office hours of 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday to Thursday.

Work Environment: Office (in-person)

Start Date: May/June (for summer program)

Program Duration: Internship positions are meant to be short-term and based around academic semesters and last for 3-4 months. We offer: Spring, Summer and Fall positions.

Pay & Benefits: This internship is unpaid. Read Better Be Better is fully committed to providing eligible interns with all documentation necessary for them to receive course credit for their time with the organization, if they wish to do so.


SUMMARY 

As a Community Engagement Intern at RBBB, you'll play a vital role in connecting with local businesses and organizations for our Home Library Initiative. Your responsibilities will also include assisting in the planning and coordination of book drives and family engagement events. This internship offers valuable experience in partnership development, event planning, and community engagement, all in close collaboration with our Community Site Coordinator and Community-Based Program Manager.


The ideal candidate is reliable and responsible, a creative problem-solver, a great communicator, extremely organized, and loves learning and working with people.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partnership Development:
  • Identify potential partner organizations within the community.
  • Assist in establishing partnerships and securing book donations in alignment with RBBB's mission.
  • Collaborate with the Community-Based Program Manager for effective partnership development.
  • Maintain records of interactions with potential partners.
  • Event Coordination:
  • Support the planning and execution of book drives and family engagement events.
  • Work closely with the Community-Based Program Manager to coordinate event logistics.
  • Ensure the participation of partner organizations in events.
  • Assist in managing event resources and volunteers.
  • Promotion and Marketing:
  • Create promotional materials for events, such as flyers and social media content.
  • Coordinate promotional efforts with partner organizations.
  • Maintain a social media content calendar for scheduled event-related posts.
  • Incentive System Implementation:
  • Collaborate with the team to develop and implement incentive systems to encourage book donations and family participation.
  • Ensure incentives are prepared and distributed during events.
  • Collect feedback to evaluate the effectiveness of incentive systems.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES

  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in a relevant field.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and design tools.
  • A self-motivated, enthusiastic learner.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team.
  • Passion for literacy and community engagement.

PREFERRED SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES

  • Enrollment in/having a relevant degree program preferred (i.e. public administration, business administration, nonprofit management, human resources, etc.)
  • Understanding of the following platforms and applications: Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint), Salesforce, social media and Slack
