We are looking for a Financial Controller, or Comptroller, to undertake all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, financial reporting, budget and forecasts preparation, and maintenance of internal control policies and procedures. Finance Controller responsibilities will also include financial risk management. We are a tight knit culture, and are looking for an individual that takes ownership of the role and associated responsibilities, and functions well as part of a team.
Objectives of this role
- Provide comprehensive financial updates to Management by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting relevant operational results
- Guide financial decisions by applying company policies and procedures to current economic conditions
- Maintain financial controls and guidelines
- Achieve budgeting goals with proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective actions
- Help develop and support short and long-term operational strategies
Responsibilities
- Manage all accounting operations including Payroll, Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Project Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition
- Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances to Management
- Prepare and publish monthly financial statements on a timely basis
- Research technical accounting issues for compliance
- Prepare month-end closing and year-end audit reports
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
- Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Assess business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls and protection of Company assets
- Maintain relationships and reporting with financial partners (Bank, Surety, etc.)
- Oversee inventory and project costing of shop materials and equipment
- Additional controller duties as necessary or assigned
- Oversee IT infrastructure and manage interactions with consultants and vendors
Required skills and qualifications
- 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Accounting, Finance, or other related business program
- Strong understanding of banking processes and financial data analysis
- Working knowledge of local tax regulations and compliance reporting
- Experience in managing payroll, and related tax filings
- Exemplary history of financial reporting and project management
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Experience with creating and formatting financial statements
- Experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year-end close processes
- Excellent accounting software and administration skills
Preferred skills and qualifications
- Experience as a senior-level accounting or finance manager
- Professional certification, such as CPA or CMA
