MEDICAL ASSISTANT
Reports to: Director of Clinical Services
The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting with medical visits and clinical procedures. This individual will obtain patient records and test results, prepare treatment rooms for examinations, and assist our medical providers during medical procedures and coordinate daily administrative tasks.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Obtain and record patient medical histories, vitals, test results and other information in the medical records while maintaining strict confidentiality.
Instruct patients on preparation for tests and studies.
Provide health education, and instruct and guide patients in health care as directed by the medical provider.
Delivering compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
Keep track of patient lab and diagnostic reports and inform medical providers of abnormal results. Schedule tests and/or follow-up visits.
Call prescriptions into pharmacies as ordered by medical providers. Call patients with changes in medications as ordered.
Prepare treatment rooms for clinical examinations and assist providers with medical procedures and other patient care.
Ensure that all emergency and medical equipment is in proper working condition.
Coordinate the daily administrative activities, including scheduling, patient check-in and check-out, and patient medical record maintenance.
Ensuring compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Certification from a medical assistant program and at least two years of prior experience in a medical setting.
High school diploma requires; associate's degree or equivalent preferred.
Basic understanding of patient care, medical terminology, coding procedures, reference tools, and appropriate clinical pharmacology for medical assistant practice scope Ability to effectively and courteously deal with patients and their families.
Exceptional venipuncture skills.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
Familiarity with electronic medical health care record systems
