Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Public Information Officer develops, directs, implements, supervises and evaluates a multifaceted internal and
external public relations program resulting in timely, accurate, positive, proactive and effective communications
throughout the West Clermont School District. The Public Information Officer must think in a visionary, global manner and
collaborate with various stakeholders to develop and advance district and state objectives.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
● Serves as information liaison between the total school system and all district personnel, and outside groups and
organizations that have a constructive interest in public education.
● Creates and provides leadership for a strategic communications plan designed to gain understanding and support
for the district’s mission, vision, goals and objectives; develops, implements, monitors and evaluates the plan.
● Provides advice and counsel to the Superintendent and administrative team regarding strategic communications
that advance the district’s mission and vision.
● Develops proactive communication strategies, forecasts potential issues, and sees opportunities before they occur.
● Identifies key West Clermont Schools’ audiences including families, residents, staff, and prospective employees
and families; provides targeted communications for audiences and issues.
● Serves as liaison between the district and news media including acting as district spokesperson; supervises the
production and distribution of all media alerts and media releases; arranges for press conferences as required;
facilitates media visits to school.
● Develops and implements crisis communication plans; handles media relations and other communications during
crisis situations; provides counsel and advice to district leaders and serves as spokesperson as needed.
● Effectively communicates throughout the diverse community and across generations; connects well to a variety of
school, family, and community groups and organizations.
● Creates, develops and manages content for district’s web and social media presence, maintaining a consistent look
and feel throughout all platforms and tracking and reporting on site metrics.
● Supervises, coordinates and produces all school district publications (except student publications) both internal
and external, including such publications as district newsletters, annual reports, school information brochures,
recruitment brochures, orientation brochures for new teachers and staff members and information brochures for
the families of students new to the district.
● Seeks input from staff, community, families and students by conducting and overseeing surveys and focus groups.
● Builds relationships with community organizations and businesses to promote the district and engage community
members.
● Serves as school liaison to the West Clermont Education Foundation and committees such as Citizen Advisory
Commission and Key Communicator Groups
● Plans and organizes events for staff, Board, families, students and community.
● Keeps professionally current and knowledgeable by attending conferences and meetings, maintaining membership
in professional organizations and reading professional literature.
● In collaboration with the Treasurer, maintains the district communication archive and district history artifacts.
● Performs such other duties as the Superintendent may assign.

QUALIFICATIONS

● Degree in communications, public relations or related field required
● Prior experience in the communications/ public relations field with experience in education/ public sector
communications preferred
● Excellent collaboration and engagement skills
● Effective organizational and management skills
● Self-starter and ability to prioritize projects

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid certificate/ license as issued by the Ohio Department of Education; Certificate, Licenses and/or registrations as
applicable to position duties and responsibilities and/or as required by the Board of Education.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues and administration. Ability to read, analyze and
interpret testing and survey results, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or
complaints from students, families, agencies, teachers or members of the school community. Ability to write speeches and
articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to
administration, staff, public groups, and/or Board of Education.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, families and community; ability to
speak clearly and concisely in written and oral communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of district
requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Working
knowledge of the climate, culture, and history of West Clermont School District and the West Clermont community.
Proficiency with current technology for performance of duties; including graphics design and publication/print software.
Evidence of strong analytical and critical thinking and judgment skills. Experience in planning, implementing, evaluating,
budgeting, and supervision. Commitment to improving educational opportunities for all. Ability to provide expertise and
advice to district leadership.
