Job Description

We are seeking a Network Engineer Senior to become an integral part of our team! You will be responsible for designing and implementing computer and information networks.

This is a hybrid role based in Chicago, IL, that requires the team member to be in the office 2 to 3 days per week. 

Primary Purpose of Position:

Engineer, manage, and deploy our client's global enterprise IP network infrastructure and associated technologies which supports 1,100+ users. Serve on a team that provides sustaining engineering and trouble isolation/resolution for that infrastructure.

Provide network designs which take into account the appropriate redundancy, availability, scalability, security, and manageability requirements needed for the continuing success of Intelsat’s critical Enterprise network infrastructure.

Senior Network Dev Engineer will have at least 8+ years of experience with a CCDA or CCNA certification.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), intranets, extranets, and other data networks.
  • Develop and execute test plans to check infrastructure and system performance.
  • Perform network modeling and analysis.
  • Define blueprint designs for business technology initiatives.
  • Enforce policies for standardizing systems.
  • Extensive experience with routing protocols and network design.
  • Must have extensive hands-on experience of routing, including but not limited to configuring and troubleshooting of: M/BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, RIP-1/2, PBR and WCCP.
  • Must have extensive hands-on experience of LAN switching technologies to include: STP, PVST, CGMP, IGMP, 802.XX, Gigabit Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Vlan/Trunking (802.1q & ISL), Etherchannel, Wireless, Spanning Tree (STP), HSRP, VRRP.
  • Must be familiar with legacy protocols such as DECnet and AppleTalk and TDM hardware such as TimePlex.
  • Knowledge of VoIP technologies and quality of service for voice traffic - highly desirable.
  • Must have knowledge of and experience with transport technologies including but not limited to SONET (OC3-OC192), ATM, Frame Relay and Terrestrial/Satellite Leased line (fracT1 – OC3).
  • Familiarity with RF(C Band, Ku band), IF, L-Band and RF system block diagrams desirable.
  • Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent required.
  • Must have knowledge of and experience with industry best practices on network architecture and engineering and experience in robust network, product/service and system design and implementation strategies.
  • Must be familiar with ancillary technologies used to support network backbones, e.g. management and metric gathering tools (SNMP, Netflow), packet capturing tools, and automation tools.
  • Experience in the non-technical aspects of network engineering required (e.g. interfacing with various levels of employees, mentoring more junior staff, providing reports to management).
  • Strong documentation, communication and analytical skills required.

Qualifications:

  • Must have the ability to work independently
  • Previous experience in networking, IT, or other related fields
  • Familiarity with architectural specifications
  • Familiarity with researching communication networks
  • Strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • CCNA or CCDA
  • Palo Alto Network Certification
  • Must have extensive hands-on experience of routing, including but not limited to configuring and troubleshooting of: M/BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, RIP-1/2, PBR and WCCP.

  • Strong documentation, communication and analytical skills required.
  • Must be able and willing to travel domestically and internationally. Up to 20-25% travel.
  • Must be able and willing to perform physical support activities (e.g. cable tracing/running and racking, stacking, replacing and installing hardware) as requested.
