EMPLOYMENT STATUS: 1099 Contractor
PAY RATE: $15 - $18 per hour
SCHEDULE: Monday& Tuesday, Wedneday, Thursday 9:00am-3pm

JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this classification is to provide highly responsible, facilitative, and creative instruction of enrichment, academic, and developmental learning activities within a structured After school classroom setting.
An Artportunity Knocks’ Acting/Drama/Dance/Theate Instructor is responsible for enthusiastically engaging K-8th grade students by facilitating lessons, hands-on projects, games, and activities with a Performing Arts-Acting/Drama/Dance/Theater focus which may require outdoor activities at times. This role must demonstrate at least an intermediate level of Acting/Drama/Dance/Theater instruction, classroom management, and curriculum development. Experience facilitating youth enrichment, specialty, and/or development classes in Performing Arts- Acting/Drama/Dance/Theater is preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate Artportunity Knocks-powered curricula using daily/weekly lesson plans, projects, and class routines for assigned student group
- Create and write curricula for specific subject matter and/or STEAM area
- Design and instruct a variety of Performing Arts-Drama activities that are grade-level specific and appropriate in addition to general AK plans
- Develop students’ enrichment and/or talents by creating fun and exploratory experiences which may include constructing a final project to be presented at the close of the program/each semester (grand finale presentation)
- Implement appropriate behavior and classroom management techniques adhering to Artportunity Knocks (AK) Handbook policies and procedures, in accordance with the school/site’s Student Handbook policy guidelines (training provided)
- Facilitate and encourage student participation in camp activities
- Identify teachable moments and capitalize on them
- Supervise and assist mealtime activities
- Ensure assigned student group is always supervised and safe
- Model good behavior for students as it relates to sportsmanship, manners, respect, and citizenship
- Work in a team environment; build and maintain proper workplace rapport with co-workers, students, and parents
- Perform all responsibilities in a manner that guarantees the safety of students
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) - REQUIRED
- 3+ years of experience supervising and working with children, preferably as an Afterschool Instructor, Coach or Teacher - REQUIRED
- Must have Acting/Drama/Dance/Theate experience or skillset with the demonstrated ability to craft, organize, and lead lesson plans for K-8 students
- Proven ability to maintain a safe environment for others in adherence with provided protocol and standards
- Must have a positive attitude and be a self-starter
- Ability to pass a background check REQUIRED to work with children
- General mobility including, but not limited, to walking, running, bending, kneeling, and standing REQUIRED for summer program activities
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Theater, Performing Arts, Fine Arts or related field
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Current Standard First Aid Certification/ Child & Adult CPR Certification preferred. A valid driver’s license with an available vehicle for work is required.
NOTES: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate physical effort in light to active work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, light jogging, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of lightweight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time walking, standing, and/or sitting.
The selection process may include interviews, skills testing, practical evaluations, personality assessments, etc. Background checks are required.
