We are looking for like-minded, dynamic individuals to come and join our team.

ABOUT US
The Caring Place provides emergency shelter, residential programs, job training, education & computer literacy classes, healthcare, transitional housing, permanent housing, employment opportunities for homeless men, women, and children as well as programs for “at-risk” youth.

We are currently seeking a FT Education Coordinator at our homeless shelter in Hollywood FL.

JOB SUMMARY

The Education Coordinator (EC) reports to the Education Manager (EM) and oversees the Broward Outreach Center (BOC) Education Center and assist students with their academic needs. The EC is also responsible for reporting outcomes as requested and directing the day-to-day operations of the Education Center. The EC manages the implementation and scheduling of classes to ensure schedules are being followed. The EC has the authority to test, grade and evaluate student performance, and is responsible for monitoring student activities, maintaining student records, assisting with the training and evaluation of teaching assistants, and providing reports to the Education Manager.

DUTIES

  • Implements and carries out Education Center policies, NOVA Program, and Career Employment Services
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of the Education Center
  • Administers diagnostic tests and evaluates test results to discover level of language and math skills of students
  • Provides academic prescriptions and oversees the testing methods and academic prescriptions of teaching assistants
  • Monitors student activities and keeps up-to-date evaluations, maintains confidentiality of each student's progress
  • Ensures that students are treated with respect and dignity
  • Maintains accurate records of student’s grades, attendance, and achievements
  • Motivates and encourages students to perform to the best of their ability and tutors one-on-one with those experiencing difficulty or assigns individual assistance
  • Assigns tasks and oversees performance of teaching assistants, volunteers or aides assigned to education classroom(s)
  • Ensures that the Education Manager is apprised of students’ progress and prepares related reports on a timely basis and as requested
  • Reports discipline problems with students as necessary to Education Manager
  • Provides staffing schedule to Education Manager ensuring proper coverage of classes or activities
  • Maintains inventory of educational/office supplies and is responsible for ordering supplies
  • Monitors usage of computer and reports maintenance needs to supervisor
  • Establishes yearly goals with Education Manager approval and provides outcomes as requested
  • Attends company sponsored events to support the residents we serve
  • Will lead and/or participate in devotions, prayers, or other ministry activities ex. outreach events
  • Must be in agreement with and sign The Caring Place Statement of Faith
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have an Associate’s degree and at least 1 year of experience in individualized education and/or learning-based concepts and procedures; Bachelor’s degree and/or teaching certification is preferred
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented
  • Requires excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to get along with other people
  • Must set a good moral example for students.
  • Requires the ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English.
  • Must be computer literate have experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods or clime, and have the ability to lift and/or pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Must also be able to see, hear and speak, in order to interact with staff and the general public
  • Must also be able to move around as needed to perform essential job duties
