SUMMARY: Operates and maintains a variety of trucks and equipment; clears road debris, performs sign maintenance/traffic control device maintenance and repair, and maintains right-of-way sites, alleys, and/or easement areas. Drainage maintenance operations. Utility infrastructure maintenance operations.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Operates, transports, and maintains various types of equipment including but not limited to Grad-All, backhoes, Vac-truck, standard/heavy duty trucks, tractor mowers, and other small engine or motorized equipment.
  • Maintains easements and right-of-way sites; edges, mows, and trims vegetation and weeds; removes garbage and debris; level/grade unpaved surfaces and pot hole maintenance; Maintain traffic control devices and barriers.
  • Performs all the duties of an Operator including but not limited to cement and asphalt repairs including curb, walkway, and drainage structures; repairs and/or replaces broken or damaged signs; replaces and installs street reflectors, barriers, and advisory signs.
  • Performs storm water conveyance maintenance; inspects drainage systems; clears blockages and repairs or replaces structures; jets pipelines; clears grates; Assessment of illegal dumping and discharge to aid in pollution prevention.
  • This position is considered Critical Personnel during a natural or manmade disaster and/or a catastrophic event. This position may be required to provide services or perform duties for the benefit of the public and the continuity of City operations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of this position.
  • For purposes of business continuity, employees in this position are considered Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers, as defined by the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
  • Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:

High school diploma or equivalent; AND seven (7) years of equipment operation and maintenance experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.


Knowledge of:

  • Equipment operation methods and techniques and Traffic Control.
  • Safety processes, procedures, and practices.
  • Accessory applications and operations.
  • Basic motorized equipment repairs and preventative maintenance methods.
  • Culvert installation and construction inspections



Skill in:

  • Operating various types of equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Working in various site and ground conditions.
  • Receiving direction, lead role in various/assigned Dept. operations.
  • Grading operations for stormwater conveyance systems
  • Training/guiding field staff with related operations.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid State CDL Class B Driver's License is required.
  • Preferred tanker endorsement.
  • Vactor truck experience preferred
  • Have, or the ability to obtain Traffic Control Certificate within 6 months of hire or promotion.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: This position requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Exerting an excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or an excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or an excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Employee may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, managing minor electrical, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and loud noises.
