Job Description

Job Title: Energy Engineer

Reports To: Energy Engineering Manager

Job Function: The Energy Engineer is responsible for the design, operation, and maintenance of electrical and natural gas systems to ensure uninterrupted service delivery to our customers. The Energy Engineer will play a crucial role in optimizing system performance, enhancing reliability, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Nature and Scope: Reporting to the Energy Engineering Manager, responsibilities of the employee are, but shall not be limited, to:

System Design and Planning:

  • Develop engineering designs and specifications for electrical and natural gas infrastructure projects, including distribution lines, substations, and gas pipelines.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to assess system needs and plan for capacity expansion, upgrades, and reliability improvements.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses to evaluate proposed projects and recommend optimal solutions.

Project Management:

Lead engineering projects from conception to completion, overseeing all phases of design, construction, and commissioning.

Coordinate with operations, vendors, and regulatory agencies to obtain permits, approvals, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Monitor project progress, track expenditures, and manage resources effectively to meet project deadlines and budgetary constraints.

Maintenance and Operations:

Oversee the operation and maintenance of electrical and natural gas distribution systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements. Conduct routine inspections, performance assessments, and diagnostic tests to identify and address equipment failures, leaks, and other issues promptly. Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and optimize system reliability.

Regulatory Compliance:

Stay abreast of industry regulations, codes, and standards governing electrical and natural gas utilities. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, reporting obligations, and safety protocols in all engineering activities. Prepare and submit documentation, reports, and permit applications to regulatory agencies as necessary.

Continuous Improvement:

Identify opportunities to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of electrical and natural gas systems through technology adoption, process improvements, and innovative solutions. Implement best practices and industry standards to optimize system performance and reduce operational costs. Participate in professional development activities to stay current on emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in utility engineering.

Physical Requirements: All requirements are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate inpiduals with disabilities (some requirements may exclude inpiduals who pose a direct threat or significant risk to the health and safety of themselves or other employees).

  • Must have full dexterity of hands.
  • Must be able to see, hear and walk.
  • Must be able to walk up and down stairs.
  • Visual acuity required with administrative machine operation.
  • Must be able to reach, sit, stoop, and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift small objects that weigh approximately 50 lbs.

Minimum Required Skills/Qualifications

  • Must be able to drive a vehicle.
  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent discipline.
  • Computer skills necessary – Microsoft Word, Excel (AutoCAD, Milsoft, ESRI are a plus)
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with perse teams and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution systems, natural gas systems, and relevant industry standards (e.g., NESC, NEC ASME).
