Job Purpose:

The Electrical Engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting the advancement of the electrical systems for our generator technology in the R&D division of Cincinnati, Ohio. As part of our dynamic team, the Electrical Engineer will be responsible for contributing to the electronics design, wire harnesses, industrial control panel design, and HV system designs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and development of electrical sub-systems and components for controlling innovative generator technologies.
  • Develop and implement cutting-edge power electronics circuits to support the generator system.
  • Work in a lab environment with hands-on support of system prototypes.
  • Detailed design of electrical system schematics, wiring harnesses, custom circuit hardware and control modules.
  • Identification and support of strategic suppliers to complete critical component designs and procurement.
  • Development of APQP materials including FMEAs and DVP&Rs.
  • Build prototype and support development including the integration and troubleshooting of advanced electrical systems.
  • Cost model development and leading cost reduction initiatives.
  • Responsible for safety and material compliance requirements of electrical system components in demonstrator and commercial applications.
  • Analysis, design, simulation and testing of electronic circuits.
  • Support mechanical packaging and system design to support electrical/thermal requirements.
  • Work independently with limited supervision to evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using knowledge and judgement to make adaptations and modifications.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, needed, or required for the business.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in designing electrification systems encompassing batteries, motors, inverters, PDUs, and embedded controllers, along with adherence to high voltage safety protocols.
  • Power Sub-System Design covering AC/DC, DC/DC, DC/AC, EMI, Harmonic Control, and Magnetics.
  • Skilled in electrical system modeling and simulation using MATLAB-Simulink, PSPICE, or LTSPICE.
  • Familiarity with packaging electronic components and interpreting electrical manufacturing documentation for commercialization support.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in designing and troubleshooting intricate electrical sensor and controls.
  • Experience in circuit/schematic and PCB design using tools like Altium Designer, as well as wire harness design with 2D CAD tools such as AutoCAD or Zuken Harness Builder.
  • Understanding of electromagnetic compatibility, compliance requirements, and industry standards.
  • Proven track record in high-volume manufacturing of electrical systems with emphasis on cost efficiency, manufacturability, serviceability, and durability.
  • Expertise in designing and implementing communication networks like CAN, Ethernet, SPI, and I2C.
  • Familiarity with ISO 26262, UL Standards, and MIL specifications.
  • Highly collaborative personality with a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate verbally effectively and positively and in writing with customers. (internal and external), to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments.
  • Good problem solving and good communication skills, excellent numeracy and spatial awareness.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions. Strong follow-through and self-starting nature.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (up to 10%) for liaising with engineering providers and hardware suppliers.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

Education, Experience and Certifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • 0-2 years experience
