REPORTS TO: Student Training Director
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
Job Summary: Directs staff engaged in providing academic training for all students and ensures departmental programs and standards meet all Department of Labor (DO), Policy and Requirements Handbook (PRH), Center and Corporate requirements.
Duties:
- Helps to establish and ensures approved curriculum is being taught.
- Train, supervise, and evaluate academic program staff.
- Conducts and documents classroom observations.
- Develops and implements programs to promote attainment of grade level literacy/numeracy gains, GED/HSD credential, and Driver’s Licenses for students to assure attainment of OMS goals.
- Prepares and controls budget in cooperation with the F & A Director.
- Ensures an adequate supply of materials is on hand to support programs.
- Ensures proper records on students’ progress, attendance, etc., are kept by instructors.
- Evaluates performance data on student progress and makes data-based decisions to promote higher levels of student achievement.
- Acquaints staff with their functional working relationships and ensures staff carries them out.
- Helps instructors solve problems with classroom management and student behavior.
- Promotes compliance with Center’s Standards of Conduct System to recognize and document student behavior in collaboration with the Student Personnel Officer and individual counselors.
- Recommends the hiring and retention of certified instructors.
- Participates in scheduling and recommends adjustments to class size aligned with DOL and company requirements.
- Ensures adequate coverage during instructional staff absences through utilization of substitute(s) or conducting class.
- Assists in the development and administration of the CDSS plan.
- Ensures instructional staff assists students in developing and updating short- and long-term goals using the Student MyPACE Career Plan.
- Complies with all DOL guidelines, Job Corps notices and bulletins, and Center policies and procedures.
- Models, mentors, and monitors appropriate career success standards.
- Participates in evaluations of student progress.
- Conducts and documents regular staff meetings with instructors.
- Participates in PRH mandated staff training.
- Conducts and documents quality assurance audits and self-evaluations to ensure program quality and integrity.
- Adheres to required property control policies and procedures.
- Maintains good housekeeping in all areas and complies with safety practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned within the individual’s scope and capabilities.
Requirements
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Above average public speaking skills and experience in same; above average verbal and written skills; above average problem solving and conflict resolution skills; computer literacy; specifically, internet, e-mail, Microsoft Office Suite and G Suite; ability to work some evening hours and periodic weekends; and ability to travel periodically.
Experience: Minimum three years teaching with one-year supervisor experience required.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in education from a four-year college or university required. Master’s degree in education preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid State Driver’s License, State Teacher/Supervisory Certification required.
