The Company is seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician for an apartment community in Naperville, IL The ideal candidate would have 2-3 years previous experience in a similar role. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and a personable demeanor which are key factors to success. The ability to multi-task and be adaptive to changing responsibilities while maintaining a positive attitude are also crucial.

Job Description

Summary/Objective:

The Maintenance Technician is primarily responsible for protecting, maintaining, and enhancing the value of the community/asset while also maximizing the living experience for residents and the community. This is accomplished by ensuring that all resident maintenance issues are resolved expertly and efficiently.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead by example, living the behaviors and standards that exude McCaffery’s culture and core values.
  • Provide residents and tenants with outstanding customer service; build brand loyalty by ensuring that every customer interaction is positive through our industry leading MEET McCaffery service approach.
  • Operate to McCaffery’s Methods as it relates to Risk and Legal Management, Facilities Maintenance, Financial Management, Training, Human Resources, Marketing, IT and Commercial Leasing.
  • Complete McCaffery’s DREAM platform requirements as set forth by the Training Manager.
  • Represent the best interest of the property, its residents, management, and ownership at all times.
  • Always be ready to serve. Help divide and oversee task completion among staff in the absence of a team member.
  • Maintain a high-level awareness of market trends and take routinely scheduled tours of competing properties. Provide recommendations on innovative solutions to ensure relevancy in the marketplace.
  • Conduct all business in accordance with McCaffery’s policies and procedures, fair housing, Americans with Disabilities Act and all other laws pertaining to residential units, commercial properties as well as all employment laws.
  • Work possible weekends and perform on-call duties as determined by the (Property Manager or Regional Manager).
  • Showing care and concern for residents through excellence in service ticket resolution and preventative maintenance.
  • Resolving maintenance issues in the area of HVAC, electrical, plumbing and appliance repair.
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments.
  • Painting and carpentry work as needed.
  • Preparing vacant apartments for move-in through turn-over repairs and improvements.
  • Preserving the beauty of the building and the safety of the community through general upkeep and cleanliness, snow removal and grounds maintenance.
  • Working weekends or evenings and being on call for after-hour emergencies.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a residential apartment building. This job accesses all areas of building, including apartments, mechanical rooms, common area, roof, management office, etc.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear for communication purposes. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day (8 hours). The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside year-round. At times, may be to be subjected to hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. Duties may require the ability to function in narrow spaces.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work may vary however basic schedule is M-F 8am-5pm. On call and overtime work may be required.

Travel:

No travel is expected for this position.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience in building maintenance or an education in the trades
  • proficiency in HVAC, plumbing, electrical and appliance repair
  • An HVAC certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire)
  • Pool care and pest control if required by community
  • Ice/snow removal
  • Availability for emergency situations at the property, including an on-call rotation
  • Personal, reliable transportation to get to work and to respond to on-call emergencies
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • A sharp professional appearance
  • Basic computer skills and comfort using various software, apps and computer programs
