Our Organization

Girls on the Run (GOTR) Greater Boston is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. Girls on the Run uses running as a vehicle for teaching life skills and promoting health outcomes for 8-13 year old girls.  As part of a network of Girls on the Run councils across the US and Canada, we implement a proven afterschool program in over 50 diverse communities in eastern Massachusetts.

The Program Coordinator will join our small team of eight staff members as we work to benefit Boston-area girls (and youth who are non-binary or gender non-conforming) through our mission-driven nonprofit and achieve our ambitious goal of serving 5,000 girls annually by 2026.

 

Position Summary

We are seeking a dynamic team player who enjoys building new and authentic relationships with others. As part of a small team, the Program Coordinator is responsible for helping to expand our reach and build new teams. They are also responsible for ensuring that programs are well-run and set up for long-term success through excellent relationship-building and meticulous planning and follow through. By providing outstanding customer service to all constituents - from school and community administrators to coaches and families - the Program Coordinator will help establish and nurture GOTR teams in diverse communities throughout greater Boston. Interested candidates can learn more about our mission, core values, and programs on our website: www.girlsontherunboston.org.


Specific responsibilities include:

 

Site Recruitment and Retention:

  • Implement the Girls on the Run strategic program plan and collaborate with the team to achieve program goals
  • Conduct proactive outreach and follow up with school principals, staff, and community members – at both new and returning sites – to generate support for GOTR 
  • Ensure compliance with site policies and procedures, implementing improvements as needed
  • Ensure program sites have qualified volunteer coaches
  • Support coaches and site liaisons as they prepare for and launch the season
  • Implement effective coach recruitment and retention strategies that result in qualified volunteers that mirror the demographics of our community and girls served
  • Communicate with families as questions arise
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and serve as a responsive and helpful point of contact for an assigned list of sites  Work with schools as they recruit and train volunteer coaches in diverse communities
  • Ensure effective management and record-keeping for 30-50 sites
  • Lead and Facilitate large coach training sessions and coach meetings (in person and virtual)

 

Administrative & Technology:

  • Perform administrative pieces of program implementation including program inventory and maintenance, registration information, program evaluations and applications in GOTR database (Pinwheel)
  • Utilize various other platforms to communicate and collaborate including Google Suite, Slack, Canva, and Dropbox
  • Follow internal processes and protocols to ensure program quality and access to reliable data 

 

Program Quality and Coordination:

  • Create an excellent GOTR experience for participants, families and coaches
  • Help ensure volunteers meet all compliance standards (i.e., background checks, training)
  • Conduct in-person mid-season site visits and coordinate other stakeholders’ mid-season site visits (“Team Adelaide”), 
  • Review site visit feedback and provide follow-up to coaches and sites as necessary
  • Oversee distribution of program materials for every team and participating girl/family 
  • Support the creation of marketing fliers and social media posts
  • Facilitate participant registration, including collection of paperwork and program fees
  • Monitor sites’ attendance tracking through Pinwheel platform


Organizational Support

  • Play a key role in preparation and implementation of the fall and spring end-of-season 5K events
  • Represent GOTR at community events
  • Coordinate and attend organization events including site visits, prospective site or coach meetings, coach training, fundraisers, and the Girls on the Run 5K events
  • Contribute to ongoing development and implementation of initiatives that support Girls on the Run’s priority of embedding Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) throughout the organization
  • Take on other projects and duties as assigned

 

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Passion for Girls on the Run, the ability to communicate the GOTR mission, and embraces the GOTR values
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • Strong communication skills and a high level of comfort calling, emailing, and texting members of the community
  • Readiness to embrace the work of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access
  • Demonstrated success at managing multiple priorities and working effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with spreadsheet and database management, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom, and shared file workspaces
  • An adaptable and resourceful nature and growth mindset
  • The desire to be an integral part of a small nonprofit’s sustained success
  • Skilled at working both independently and collaboratively
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

 

Work Environment: This is a full- time position based in Boston, MA. The Program Coordinator’s schedule will include working in GOTR’s Boston office twice per week, as well as working remotely. This role may require some travel, with reimbursed mileage and frequent in-person and virtual meetings and events with staff and stakeholders. Availability on nights and weekends (as needed) for GOTR events, and training sessions.


The Program Coordinator is a full-time exempt position and reports to the Program Director, offering a salary range of $50,000 to $60,000 annually. GOTR offers benefits to all full-time employees, including 403(b) retirement matching, an ICHARA health insurance benefit, and generous paid time off days. Some evening and weekend availability is required of the Program Coordinator to support coach, volunteer, and fundraising events. This position is in GOTR’s downtown Boston office 2-3 days/week, with remote work allowed on designated days each week; however, candidates must reside in the Girls on the Run Greater Boston program area.
