Background

  • Works under general direction of the Plant Manager in a c-GMP regulated manufacturing environment operating under Q7A standards.
  • This person shall perform all duties required to provide compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This includes establishing and maintaining policies and procedures consistent with these requirements.

Tasks

  • Develop and conduct training classes for the company on topics related to regulatory and safety aspects; includes new and current employee training.
  • Coordinate safety and health programs and policies with other related departments (such as conducting effluent and storm water sampling and reporting); consult with staff and users to determine resource requirements; monitor satisfaction and meet company expectations.
  • Develop, implement and maintain internal control procedures consistent with organization requirements and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct inspections governing worker health and safety as it would apply to current organization requirements and local, state, and federal regulations; enforcing this requirements as necessary.
  • Perform duties to ensure the organization meets all of its legal compliance obligations with regards to local, state, and federal regulations for air, waste, water, and toxic substances.
  • Define, identify, and prioritize projects and tasks in relationship to safe work environment.
  • Develop and maintain all Safety Data Sheets for the organization for all imported and exported products within the organization.
  • Interact with the local police and fire department during emergency situations.
  • Assist in the management of worker’s compensation in conjunction with the Human Resource Department to ensure all applicable requirements are met for the organization.
  • Manage Department of Transportation activities and all associated training.
  • Assist in the management of the Random Drug Testing program for the organization.
  • Assist departments and plant sites on safety and health aspects of instructional materials and equipment; review new products, equipment and processes for potential hazards and recommend modifications before introduction and ensure continuous improvement of the safety culture within the organization.
  • Identify and document project risk assessments; identify probably mitigating factors and alleviation mechanisms/approaches.
  • Lead in the investigation of incidents and/or injuries within the organization; implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Keep management informed of progress, issues and resource requirements for assigned tasks/projects. Develop and maintain system of metrics tracking and reporting regarding spending opportunities.
  • Manage applicable safety equipment and purchase as necessary, for the organization.
  • Maintain currency in the profession and with applicable regulations.
  • Any other tasks deemed necessary by Management for the betterment of Jost operations

Specifications

  • B.S. degree. Credit for a major in a program that included (or was supplemented by) at least 15 semester hours in Science, Environmental management, Engineering, Occupational Safety or Health (or a related field). A combination of a college degree and work related experience will also be considered.
  • Seven (7) years of progressively more responsible work experience and/or on-the-job training that provided knowledge of generally accepted principles, theories and practices used in safety administration
  • Knowledge of:
    1. Federal, state and local SHE regulations (Thorough level)
    2. Office methods and procedures
    3. MS Office software package
  • Skill in:
    1. Training needs assessment, design, delivery and evaluation
    2. Working effectively and efficiently on multiple projects at once
    3. Working effectively in a team environment, including in-depth collaboration between production and process divisions
    4. Responding to rapidly changing demands
  • Ability to:
    1. Provide leadership in delivering effective and efficient HSE services
    2. Develop SHE policies and procedures
    3. Manage projects and coordinate them with other organizational units
    4. Train and influence others in SHE related activities
    5. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of people
    6. Assess risk and develop appropriate mitigation approaches
    7. Review and formulate policies and procedures
    8. Develop and manage customer/ stakeholder relationships, including negotiation
    9. Exercise judgment while being insightful, logical and methodical
