Job description

Primary Function
Under the supervision of a registered nurse, as a patient safety monitor you will provide direct observation or rounding observation of patients who have been deemed a safety risk to themselves and/or others.
Responsibilities
  • Complies with all related policies requiring a patient safety sitter role (i.e., suicide policy, restraint policies).
  • Consistently demonstrates ethical judgement in actions and accountability for job performance to assure patient safety.
  • Participates in transfer of care (patient safety sitter to patient safety sitter, patient safety sitter to nurse, patient safety sitter to other care team members); communicates any special considers, care priorities, and support needs as appropriate.
  • Maintains patients' rights, including the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information.
  • They assist in the provision of a safe and clean environment and helps with activities of daily living, when appropriate.
  • Provides continuous observation and documentation for patients at risk for self-harm, elopement, or injury, as delegated by the RN.
  • Accompanies patient to medical procedures to maintain 1:1 continuous monitoring requirement.
  • Observes and reports unusual conditions and/or change in patient behavior or appearance to the RN
  • Completes safety checklists as appropriate and assists with ensuring an ongoing safe environment for a patient on continuous observation.
  • Demonstrates ability to inspire confidence in patients, visitors, and staff members by communicating in a professional manner.
  • Consistently uses proper administrative route and communication procedures to report changes in patient behavior.
  • Consistently seeks assistance from nurses and supervisors in situations that are unfamiliar.

Job Qualifications and Specifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Basic Life Support/CPR certification within 30 days of employment. Successful completion of the orientation program. Ability to work with others in a cooperative and collaborative manner, reliability, flexibility, ability to work and care for a diverse patient population.
