Job description

Job Summary: 

The Patient Transporter performs under the direct supervision of the Central Transport Supervisor. The Patient Transporter is responsible for transporting all patients following hospital and departmental policies while maintaining awareness for opportunities to promote the WE CARE Philosophy. The Patient Transporter is ultimately accountable to the Operations Manager of Central Transportation. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.     

Performance Expectation:             

  • Demonstrate the ability to safely transport patients of all ages/developmental levels to and from our facility departments.
  • Demonstrate an ability to follow safety precautions during patient transport to ensure the well-being of oneself, patients, and other staff members (i.e., avoids improper lifting, properly disposes of sharps, maintains infection control procedures, consistently cleans work area on own initiative to facilitate efficient work, and avoids damaging equipment).
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively in all interactions with patients, families, visitors and employees while achieving exceptional, sustained quality patient care, satisfaction, and loyalty.
  • Demonstrate an ability to respond to requests from patient care team members and completes all patient transports within 20 minutes to minimize patient discomfort.
  • Demonstrate an ability to respond to patients when their condition worsens by appropriately and quickly alerting the RN and patient care team members.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills:

High school diploma or equivalent required, one year of academic undergraduate work preferred. A training program will be required to include transport procedures, use and operation of a utility cart, wheelchair, stretcher, bed, oxygen tank.         

Work Experience:            

None required but preferably one year's experience in dealing with customer service.
