To thrive as a Transporter PRN, you need a high school diploma or GED, basic knowledge of patient handling, and physical stamina for moving patients and equipment safely. Familiarity with hospital transport systems, patient tracking software, and safe transport equipment is often required. Earnings depend on factors like hours worked, location, and employer policies.

What does a Transporter PRN do?

A Transporter PRN is responsible for safely moving patients, equipment, and supplies within a healthcare facility on an as-needed (PRN, or 'pro re nata') basis. This role typically includes transporting patients to and from diagnostic areas, surgical suites, and patient rooms. Transporter PRNs ensure patient comfort and safety during transport, assist with patient lifting or transferring when needed, and maintain equipment cleanliness. They work flexible hours based on the facility’s needs and may be called in to cover shifts or busy periods.
