TOTE Maritime Puerto Rico, a leader in safe and reliable service to Puerto Rico, is seeking a Director of Fleet & Inland to join the team at our Jacksonville, FL office.

In this position you will:

be responsible for daily management of all fleet operations activities and inland functions focusing on optimal fleet inventory, fleet maintenance, as well as ensuring a high level of service to all clients.

Main Duties and Responsibilities Include:
  • Directly supervise and manage Department Managers
  • Build a successful operations team through assessing the team’s capabilities, proactively resolving gaps, actively coach leaders to prepare them for greater responsibility, delegate duties to cultivate a sense of empowerment and ownership
  • Manage capital requirements and budgets for operations and risk departments, while controlling costs through leadership and business process improvements
  • Manage day-to-day fleet and inland operations through staff - TMPR terminal maintenance, logistics, and corporate office Fleet Management team, vehicle operations; all within company standards of excellence. Fleet efforts will support a fleet that is the right size based on volume, that is properly maintained by internal and external vendors, and has the proper age according to TOTE standards. Inland efforts will support on-time pick-ups and deliveries through selected trucking partners.
  • Supervise programs, policies, and/or procedures to reduce or eliminate organizational risk, taking care of safety and accident prevention. Support functions related to hazardous materials handling, contraband prevention and stowaway prevention, business continuity, claims management, employee health and wellness, and IICL management education for employees
  • Provide leadership in managing terminal maintenance and repair; establish relationships with customers and service providers
  • Manage, identify, and verify equipment safety, inventory and repairs within budget, with exemplary Recordable Safety and Lost Time records while meeting the needs of the company and its vendors. These include risks and exposures which can result in significant personal injury, environmental damage, property damage, vessel arrests, or adverse publicity.
  • Knowledgeable and Compliant with all government Standards and Certifications
  • Manage and negotiate Inland service contracts, drayage rates, fuel charges, and other areas as identified
  • Support and develop systems improvement and integrations
  • Ensure all risk-associated contracts, insurances, and records are maintained and bid appropriately
  • Report fleet utilizations, productivity and budgeting performances to Senior Manager
  • Maintain safety and exemplify high ethical standards to customers, employees and vendors.
  • Directly negotiate with leasing companies regarding rates, terms and all cost issues
  • Travel periodically to Puerto Rico with oversight of equipment and maintenance and repair activities
  • Responsibilities include training, planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employee; addressing complaints and resolving problems
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Leadership: a demonstrated ability to lead people and get results
  • Planning: an ability to think ahead and plan over a 3-9 month time span. Also, will have the ability to plan an equipment purchase strategy for 5-7 years in the future
  • Management: the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Commitment to company values
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent through work experience
  • Ability to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Senior Management, groups of managers, clients, customers and general public
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to compute rates, ratio and percent and draw and interpret various graphs
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral and schedule form
  • Valid Driver’s license required.
