Public Works: Roads Operator

Calling all road warriors with a passion for asphalt and a love for keeping our community connected! The City of Box Elder is seeking a top-notch Roads Operator to join our dedicated team.

You would be joining our tight-knit Public Works crew of five divisions: Streets, Parks, Water, Sanitary Sewer, and Fleet & Vehicle Maintenance. We're all about collaboration, camaraderie, and keeping Box Elder humming.

The work schedule is typically a four-day, 10-hour shift schedule (Monday through Thursday, or Tuesday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) that may be adjusted due to inclement weather.

Essential Functions- Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Operating a variety of road maintenance equipment, including graders, pavers, and snowplows.
• Keeping our streets smooth and safe through patching, crack sealing, and pothole repair.
• Contributing to larger projects like asphalt paving and road resurfacing.
• Responding to winter weather events to keep our roads clear and our citizens safe.
• Collaborating with a supportive team to ensure the quality and efficiency of our operations.

What We Are Looking For:

• High School Diploma/GED; AND two (2) years of construction and maintenance operations experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Experience operating heavy machinery.
• A strong work ethic, a can-do attitude, and a willingness to learn new things.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• A commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

• A valid driver's license.
• South Dakota Class B CDL (Commercial Driver's License) or the ability to obtain one within 12 months of hire. The City will cover all expenses related to obtaining a Commercial Driver's License, including exam fees, training materials, and tuition costs.
