Direct Support Professional DSP

Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides support in all areas of daily living including, but not limited to personal care assistance and teaching; community integration and socialization, development of personal interests, skills and talents of the individual being supported and personal safety.

Responsibilities:

• DSP responsibilities are to provide high quality services that are person-centered and meet the best practice standards.
• To understand and provide services in accordance with each individual Support Plan and Behavioral Support Plan
• Provide appropriate level of supervision and support as indicated in the Support Plan
• Offer and participate in activities that are individualized and person-centered
• Provide supports on an individualized basis in making informed choices, aiding in growth in self-esteem and autonomy, and achieving community integration and participation
• Ensure that supports are provided according to best practices and individual choices, including attending social recreational and religious activities
• The ability to effectively and effectively use a computer or mobile devise to input, access, modify or output information related to the job
• Ensure documentation is compliant with all applicable laws, rules and regulations and complete according to program requirements
• Keep all client records confidential and secured
• Comply with health and safety guidelines, rules policies and procedures
• Observe and document drills and emergency guidelines monthly
• Administer medications and monitor individuals according to Level 1 Medication Administration certifications

Qualifications:

• Must be 18 years of age and proof of high school diploma or G.E.D.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in English (both written and oral)
• Must be able to pass a background screening by not having been convicted of any disqualifying felony and must not have been substantiated for abuse and neglect in the state of Missouri, as recorded by the Department of Mental Health's Employee Disqualification List.
• Must have reliable transportation for transporting clients and proof of insurance.
• Must be able to be approved or applying for approval with Social Security Administration
• Must demonstrate safe practices in all areas and exemplify positive professional standards.
• Must possess or obtain, and subsequently maintain a valid driver's license and carry at least the minimum auto coverage according to the state law.
• Must be willing to complete all annual trainings to maintain appropriate certifications
• Must be able to work independently, show flexibility, adaptability and willingness to spend time with a client by providing patience, compassion and promoting autonomy.
