About the position

Responsible to provide overall strategies, leadership, and management of multiple large, complex regional or national projects for the Company from start to finish, including managing project budgets, scheduling, quality control, problem resolution, job coordination and communication, job invoicing/payments and client satisfaction activities. This position manages multiple project teams and has responsibility for business development, job solicitation and project negotiations, in alignment with all Company policies, procedures, key objectives and regulations.

Day in the life

  • Partners with senior leadership to create key functional strategies, critical objectives, and decisions affecting the business unit and functional work group. Conducts high-quality business development, creates key customer relationships, and performs job solicitation in the marketplace, in partnership with other Company leaders.
  • Creates project execution strategies and directs all phases and activities of the project to achieve high quality and productivity in the work performed. This includes bidding, budgeting, preconstruction, materials procurement, monitoring projections, billing, collections, and establishing goals and standards of performance. Ensures all construction jobs or contracts are fulfilled to the customer's satisfaction and the Company has earned a fair profit.
  • Plans, implements, independently manages, and maintains project activities to optimize the efficiency of labor, materials, supplies, equipment, and tools. Ensures all plans and specifications clearly identify project scope and milestones and are shared with all appropriate parties. Prepares project status reports and works to ensure plans adhere to contract specifications. Ensures all project and department milestones, procedures, and goals are met and adhere to approved budgets and project specifications.
  • Provides frequent management oversight and problem resolution. Communicates directly with project team members, contractors, and designers concerning project costs, staffing, and scheduling. Manages timely and accurate project documents, estimates, projections, material release schedules, client information, purchase orders, monthly invoices, payments, closeout documents, warranties, drawings, specification logs, maintenance manuals, final billings, change orders, and other related documents related to construction projects.
  • Builds strategic and effective relationships with clients and future clients, foremen, project teams, specialty contractors, vendors, suppliers, user groups, and others that reflect and support the Company's core values and meet or exceed the customer's expectations.
  • Provides regular and high-quality hiring, communications, mentoring, coaching, problem-solving, and training to staff and other co-workers at all levels as needed. Advises and coaches employees and provides performance feedback regularly.
  • Creates and manages an annual financial budget and maintains some level of responsibility for Companywide financials. Stays informed of new and changing Company procedures, policies, materials, technologies, techniques, and practices. Establishes, trains, and maintains policies and processes.
  • Utilizes LEAN concepts or other continuous improvement methodologies to ensure the most efficient operations, processes, and activities.
  • Promotes and models the Company mission, vision, and values through exercising sound and ethical business practices, championing all elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and providing high-quality services and programs as they relate to clients, subcontractors, co-workers, suppliers, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering, project management, business administration, construction management or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of project management and project leadership experience with projects of all sizes. Extensive project management training and skills. Thorough understanding of the project life cycle. Minimum 5 years of experience managing people. Previous field construction experience helpful (e.g., electrical, technologies, fire, etc.).
  • Minimum 5+ years of work experience in a designer role may be required for some divisions or business groups. Keen knowledge of the managed business unit and of the overall departmental function.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with construction methods and materials, costing, power, lighting, systems design and general industry safety standards, procedures, and regulations.
  • Experience and proficiency using Accubid software, Revit, CAD, SKM, AGI, Navisworks and/or BIM systems may be required for some divisions or business groups. Trained and proficient in estimating techniques, negotiating, budgeting, costing, contracting, scheduling, pricing, and common code requirements.
  • Extensive experience with value analysis in all market segments and in-depth trade knowledge. Strong conceptual estimating skills, and experience in reviewing estimates for accuracy and completeness. Previous experience with field installation helpful. Strong business analysis and mathematical skills. Skills to read and interpret financial documents.
  • Knowledge of building construction, materials, costs, systems, market conditions/trends, trade practices and regional differences. Must have extensive knowledge of the electrical code. Skills to read, interpret and understand electrical contracts, plans, drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Excellent written, verbal, listening, presentation, negotiation, conflict management and persuasion skills, and the ability to influence employees at all levels, including senior management.
  • Exceptional ability to coach, mentor, motivate and develop front line and senior level management, providing support to build high performing, highly engaged teams and providing organizational and leadership guidance through periods of significant transition. Strong hiring, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work with and facilitate diverse work teams.
  • In-depth training, work experience and skills with LEAN methodologies and/or similar applications. Strong process orientation.

Travel

Frequent travel to project sites is required.
