Position Summary

Southern Land Company, a national real estate development and construction firm headquartered in Nashville, TN is seeking a full-time Irrigation Technician to join our dynamic team at our Westhaven Community.

We are looking for a reliable and experienced Irrigation Technician to perform service and preventive maintenance on our client's irrigation systems. As the lead technician, you will be responsible for mapping out irrigation areas, replacing broken parts, digging trenches, installing equipment, testing the system, and conducting regular maintenance checks. You may also be required to install controllers and troubleshoot electrical issues.

To ensure success as an Irrigation Technician, you should exhibit a strong work ethic, have detailed knowledge of irrigation techniques, and be able to operate heavy machinery when required. Ultimately, a top-level irrigation technician can maintain / install any sized irrigation system to fit the needs of the client.

Irrigation Technician Responsibilities

• Inspecting and loading equipment for the day's work
• Driving to the clients' location in a company vehicle
• Testing the soil and vegetation to determine irrigation needs
• Mapping out areas for irrigation installation
• Digging trenches and installing pipes and lines
• Installing pumps and electrical controllers
• Perform preventive maintenance procedures on irrigation systems and pumps
• Testing the irrigation system with the aid of computer software
• Conducting routine maintenance checks
• Troubleshooting and replacing faulty parts
• Completing progress reports and associated paperwork

Physical requirements

Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending over, stooping, twisting, talking, hearing, climbing ladders, using stairs, reaching overhead, crouching, kneeling, crawling. Pushing or pulling 10-80 lbs., lifting 10-50 lbs., repetitive use of arms and legs, driving, balancing manual dexterity, fine manipulation or grasping. Also, may require working in adverse weather condition.

Irrigation technician requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid drivers license
• Ability to work extended hours beyond regular 8-5 workday. Including nights and weekends
• Proven work experience as an irrigation technician
• Ability to navigate Microsoft office and working knowledge of computers
• Knowledge of conventional irrigation and 2-wire systems
• Good communication skills
• Knowledge of plumbing is preferable
• Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy objects
• Knowledge of soil, vegetation and climate
