Position Description: The skilled Registered Nurse will oversee and delegate certain patient care responsibilities to unlicensed assistive personnel within our healthcare setting. The RN will assess patient needs, determine appropriate tasks for delegation based on policies and regulations, provide guidance and oversight to ensure safe and effective care delivery, and supervise the nursing assessments conducted by licensed practical nurses (LPNs).
Job Duties Include:
- Assess individuals needs and conditions to determine appropriate tasks for delegation based on the practice setting, state regulations, and employer policies.
- Provide comprehensive medication training to unlicensed assistive personnel (UAPs), ensuring proper medication administration techniques, safety protocols, and documentation.
- Delegate specific nursing tasks, including medication administration, to UAPs and supervise LPNs' nursing assessments based on established guidelines and regulations.
- Remain readily available for guidance, questions, or assistance with delegated responsibilities as needed.
- Communicate effectively with UAPs regarding assigned patient care responsibilities and provide clear instructions.

- Personally perform tasks if the individuals’ conditions or circumstances require direct RN intervention.
- Communicate with appropriate individuals (CFCM, NHTC staff, guardian) to ensure the health needs of persons supported are being adequately met.
- Coordinate or provide approved instruction, training, or in-services for axillary personnel in Medication Administration, CPR, First Aid, and other specialized trainings as directed.
- Provides health-related education to people supported or staff as need arises, or as directed.
- Participates in Individualized Service Plan meetings as needed (ISP), department meetings, in-services and trainings offered by NHTC.
- Complete other duties as assigned to support the overall functioning of the facility.
Delegation Scope:
- The RN will delegate specific nursing activities, including medication administration, to UAPs and supervise LPNs' nursing assessments. Delegation will be based on established guidelines and regulations, ensuring patient safety and adherence to best practices.

Skills and Abilities
Education Required: Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited university or college is required.
Licensure: Current RN licensure, State of South Dakota.
Experience: 1 year or more experience is preferred
Technology: Proficient in Microsoft suite applications, use of online case management applications for healthcare
Pay Rate: $33.00 - $36.00 salaried. Salary covers all hours worked beyond the hours listed.
Hours: Most hours will be worked Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with some after hours care and phone call responsibilities.
