Job Description
Great Western Trailer (GWT) is seeking people like you to join our Service Team as a Technician/Driver! Our Service Team is a leader in providing skilled trailer service and maintenance including specialty trailers. Great Western Trailer is a dynamic trailer Sales, Leasing, Rental, and Service company in significant growth mode. With 10 locations across 8 states, we are planning expansion into other sites in our current footprint, as well as other locations across the country.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and perform maintenance/repairs to Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Assess and repair wreck damage on all components of the trailer.
  • Aluminum and Steel welding and fabrication.
  • Driving company’s double axel truck to pick up and deliver trailers from customers for the service department.
  • Pick up and deliver trailers for the sales department.
  • Pick up and deliver Truck Equipment bodies.
  • Pick up and deliver parts to customers.
  • Inspects/repairs air brake lines, couplers, tanks, valves, shoes, drums, pads and rotors; services, adjusts and/or replaces components where necessary.
  • Inspects low voltage wiring couplers, harnesses, lights, batteries, and charging systems; services adjusts and/or replaces components where necessary.
  • Inspects/repairs body and chassis rails, side-sheets, caps, doors, retainers, fasteners, floors and plates for damage or defect; performs metal fabrication and wood carpentry tasks to repair/replace; performs sheet metal and paint work to finish; Inspects, operates, lubricates and repairs lift gate, minor mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic assemblies.
  • Installs add on components and accessories like dunnage racks, toolboxes, ramp kits, nosecones, wenches and more.
  • Performs basic and comprehensive repair welds on equipment and components.
  • Performs basic and comprehensive arc welding, air arc, gas welding, and cutting.
  • Fabricates new components from shop drawings and/or blueprints.
  • Works as a member of a team to provide basic technical services that satisfy customer needs and achieve departmental goals.
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs.
  • Prepares service reports and any other necessary paperwork.
  • Examines workpieces for defects to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Maintains all company equipment, tools, and work areas in a good, clean, and working order.
  • Performs tasks under minimal supervision.
  • Provides assistance to other Welders.
  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in semi-trailer repairs
  • Valid driver's license and reliable form of transportation
  • Own set of hand tools (Huge Plus)
  • CDL-A License with a "clean" driving record (including: no single DUI in the last 3 years and no multiple DUIs within the last 7 years)
  • Pass pre-employment testing (Drug Screen, Background Check)
  • Able to read, write and communicate in English as it relates to the job and to the safety regulations.
  • ASE or other industry recognized certifications helpful
  • Welding Certifications preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Broad knowledge of current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems
  • Excellent work habits, accuracy, attention to detail, and quality of work
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to follow logical troubleshooting procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow manufacturer and company installation and service guidelines to ensure quality work.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in fabrication and welding.
  • Ability to be self-starting and self-motivated.
  • Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands in order to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand information.
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Bilingual is a plus.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to working near moving mechanical parts, working in high places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately too loud. The employee may work in a shop, yard or out of a mobile service vehicle.
