Job Description

The Lead Stationary Engineer– DPSCS is responsible for safely, reliably, and efficiently operating the steam distribution system, ancillary equipment, and chilled water plants within a prison site. The ideal candidate must be familiar with steam pressure reducing stations, hot water converters, chillers in the 500-ton range, pumps and related equipment that are utilized to meet the heating and cooling requirements at the multi-building complex. The position oversees the operation of specific mechanical spaces and does not perform work in occupied areas. The Lead Stationary Engineer also supervises mechanics with no direct reports. This is an hourly full-time position. This position is in Baltimore, Maryland and reports to the Distribution Manager.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Maintain safe working conditions, identifies, corrects, or reports unsafe conditions in work area
  • Perform assigned duties in accordance with all published Company operating and safety policies
  • Oversees assigned routine repair and equipment overhaul
  • Leads in planning work, scheduling and ordering materials
  • Install, repair, replace, and trouble shoot plant equipment to include piping systems, valves, traps and pumps.
  • Coordinates contractor work as needed
  • Ability to recognize, report, mitigate, or correct equipment and system anomalies
  • Controls steam distribution in buildings as provided from district system
  • Operates chiller systems in several buildings
  • Acts as the liaison between Vicinity and DPSCS Staff; Collaborate and communicate successfully with members of the DPSCS staff
  • Collect, analyze, and utilize feedback to identify opportunities to improve the relationship between Vicinity and the DPSCS Staff
  • Utilizes the computer maintenance management system to manage work orders for identification and repair of plant equipment
  • Oversee completion of all prescribed records and logs at assigned mechanical spaces
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations
  • Must have ability to work extended shifts as necessary and be on-call as needed

 

Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience

 

  • ​Maryland First Class Stationary Engineer's License
  • EPA – CFC Technician Certification – Universal a plus
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing concerning routine paperwork
  • Must demonstrate initiative and sound judgment
  • ​Proven experience as a pipefitter
  • Computer skills sufficient to perform common office duties. Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel.

 

Physical Requirements

 

  • Ability to climb and tolerate heights up to and including 75 feet
  • Ability to tolerate confined spaces
  • Ability to lift, maneuver, and transport up to and including 50 lbs. This includes turning valves that vary in weight
  • Ability to work in elevated temperatures
  • Must possess a valid driver's license in good standing and insurable by Company's vehicle insurance carrier
  • Must admit to company required pre-employment physical and drug screening both for Vicinity and the State of Maryland
