REPORTS TO: CEO/CFO

 

JOB PURPOSE: The Pharmacist in Charge will dispense drugs prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and provide information to patients about medications and their use. He or she may advise physicians and other health practitioners on the selection, dosage, interactions, and side effects of medications. The Pharmacist in Charge’s primary role is to ensure the effective operation of the pharmacy, deliver superior patient care, and comply with all federal and state regulations and laws.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include but are not limited to the following: (Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs)

  • Reviews prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability. Provides information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication
  • Assesses the identity, strength, or purity of medications. Compounds and dispense medications as prescribed by medical providers by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients or overseeing these
  • Maintains records such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, charge system files, inventories, control records for radioactive nuclei, and registries of poisons, narcotics, and controlled
  • Plans, implements, and maintains procedures for mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals according to policy and legal requirements to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
  • Provides specialized services to help patients manage conditions such as diabetes, asthma, smoking cessation, and high blood pressure. Offers health promotion and prevention activities by, for example, training people to use devices such as blood pressure and diabetes monitors. Advises customers on the selection of medication brands, medical equipment, and healthcare
  • Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to plan, monitor, review, and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of drugs and drug regimens, providing advice on drug applications and characteristics. Analyzes prescribing trends to monitor patient compliance and to prevent excessive usage or harmful
  • Orders and purchases pharmaceutical supplies, medical supplies, and drugs, maintaining stock and storing and handling it
  • Manages and supervises day-to-day pharmacy operations; communicates with and directs pharmacy employees to ensure that the business runs efficiently and that customer/patient needs are

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Punctual, honest, and trustworthy
  • Able to work with minimum supervision – A self-motivated individual
  • Strong patient and customer service
  • Excellent knowledge of chemistry and specific drug
  • Strong knowledge of medical and biological
  • Must be well-versed in nutritional supplements and alternative therapies
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to balance competing
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage and supervise others
  • Willingness and ability to learn new technologies and techniques


EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE


  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.)
  • Must be actively licensed in the State of Texas
  • Minimum of 1 year of non-sterile compounding pharmaceutical experience preferred
  • Pharmacist in Charge experience preferred
  • Medical Therapy Management Experience preferred

Work is performed in a general pharmacy setting.

The physical demands of the position are considered to be light work. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform work activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operating of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices.
