Job Description

The salary range for this role is $80,000-$90,000 and relocation is available if required

This position is located on the IU Southeast Campus in New Albany, Indiana--six miles from exciting, downtown Louisville! It is a mobile role that requires primarily regional travel to meet with donors/friends of the University, with mix of on-campus and remote work when not traveling.

Founded in 1941, IU Southeast provides high-quality educational programs and services that promote student learning, prepare them for productive citizenship in a diverse society, and contribute to the intellectual, cultural, and economic development of our region. Alongside our core of traditional students who arrive as freshmen straight out of high school/homeschool, our nontraditional students (such as adult learners and veterans) also play a prominent role in shaping campus life. IU Southeast offers 150+ undergrad degree programs, 50+ graduate degree programs, 100+ student orgs, 7 varsity sports teams, campus housing, study abroad programs, and extensive career services to foster students and catapult them into their career. The IU Foundation is seeking a new Director of Development to capture the energy and progress on campus and deliver that message to donors and friends of the University. This role reports to the AVP of Development, Regional Campuses-IU Foundation, with a dotted line to the Vice Chancellor for University Relations and in close partnership with the Chancellor of IU Southeast. We're seeking a true, intentional collaborator: someone who is excited to get to know the students, faculty, administration, and community, and be an engaged contributor who brings people together to foster success at IU Southeast. Fundraising for the future of IU Southeast may be your primary responsibility in this role, but success is dependent on a collective effort. Being a leader who can curate a culture of philanthropy by building bridges from donors, alumni, and friends of the University to the IU Southeast campus community is essential. You'll have the partnership of peers in Marketing, Development and Annual Giving, Alumni Relations and Campus Events, Corporate and Foundation Grants, as well as faculty, staff, and students across the campus. You will secure funds for scholarships, health and wellness, wraparound retention support programs, facility improvements, athletic programs, and more. Building trust and , you'll find success and impact many lives through the relationships you cultivate and strengthen at IU Southeast.

The Director of Development will secure philanthropic support and strategic direction for a comprehensive and coordinated development program that includes all aspects of fundraising, including annual fund, corporate and foundation relations, planned giving, and major and principal gifts. A large majority of your work will focus on cultivating relationships with major gift donors, utilizing the campus' internal resources and IU Foundation services to ensure a comprehensive and donor-centered advancement program that leads to at least 10 major gift proposals of $50k+ each year.

By building long-term relationships with donors, business leaders, and other friends of the University, you'll 'Bring on Tomorrow,' creating new opportunities for IU Southeast students for many years to come!

Qualifications

Education & Experience:
  • A bachelor's degree is required; CFRE and/or Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in fundraising or relevant experience in complex organization including proven success in major gift development work
  • Combination of related education and experience may be considered

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:
  • Prior experience in a large, complex, matrixed environment, including evidence of effective strategic planning and implementation of action plans
  • Experience successfully interacting and collaborating with support staff, academic faculty, and administrative leaders
  • Experience related to all aspects of planning and successfully executing large fundraising campaigns including working with academic leaders and preparing complex gift proposals
  • Possess an ability to work comfortably within an academic environment that possesses many competing interests, priorities, and opinions
  • Proven analytical skills - proficiency at framing and solving complex problems, proficiency in using large databases (e.g., standard fundraising data) for setting goals and identifying opportunities for improvement
  • An understanding of the importance of, and demonstrated success in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion among staff, donors, and volunteers
  • Excellent knowledge of fundraising, as well as demonstrated skills in major and planned gift solicitation and experience with major gift prospect management systems
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills (able to tailor communications to multiple audiences such as the Chancellor & Vice Chancellor, major donors, advisory board, and university leadership). Precision, timeliness, clarity, and accuracy in written communication are vital
