Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Application Engineering Manager acts as the Arizon's Division's Liaison between Engineering, Manufacturing, & Customer Service. Works with staff to maintain quality of equipment and answer questions about construction or arrangement/installation of components. Drives towards automation wherever possible. Assists with all other areas of the company when necessary and/or available.


FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

Engineering

  • Oversees the Design Engineering Team and its activities.
  • Reviews all submittals for documentation and technical details (component selection, arrangement, capacities etc.) before they are sent to the customer.
  • Ensures the Design Engineers are working with the Sales Engineers to make sure nothing is lost in translation from pre- to post-sale.
  • Review all details for documentation and technical details (arrangement, construction, rigidity) before they are released.
  • Hold monthly engineering meetings (divisional) with the sole intent of discussing recent projects.
  • Maintain costing program. Review SE costing, AE costing and actual (production) numbers, refine program and/or work with SE / AE / production on inconsistencies. Report and document all findings and look for trends and training opportunities.
  • Work as project manager for all non-standard and larger Air Rotation Orders.
  • Constantly update and provide accurate reporting to company management on short and long-term goals.
  • Work as technical advisor to SE's and AE's on all plan & spec jobs or custom applications.
  • Work with sister companies on product design, application, fabrication, and costing.
  • Participate in training of all new employees (sales and engineering).

Manufacturing

  • Schedule and participate in "Lessons Learned" meetings for all larger projects and/or projects where actual margins were well out of acceptable tolerance (+/-8%). Report and document all findings and look for trends and training possibilities.
  • Maintain testing procedures/documentation, review and approve before units leave the facility. Publish and maintain allowable tolerances / deviations for an acceptable test.

R&D

  • Work with electrical department on new technologies (both mechanical and electrical) and discuss trends / improvements to current design. Implement new technologies into our current product line for the purpose of saving manufacturing costs, component costs or to create a market advantage.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies, competitor specs, market trends and customer needs to design new company products that are competitive within the market.
  • Develop and maintain tools for both sales and applications engineering (standard specifications, sound program, load program, pricing program, turnkey scope, piping, schedules etc). Train sales and applications engineering on the use and purpose of these tools.
  • Develop/research and maintain a comprehensive energy analysis program for our products to show competitive advantage and savings for our customers.
  • Work with marketing department on new emerging products and technologies.

Customer Service

  • Work with customer service/parts on technical questions related to equipment and propose ideas for cost effective solutions.
  • Participate in customer service meetings and perform multi-background Root Cause Analyses to quickly solve the issues and eliminate future problems through implementing improved manufacturing, design and quoting practices. Report and document all findings and look for trends and training possibilities.
  • Develop and maintain procedures to review and approve field start-up reports. Set expectations for acceptable completion of start-up. Track warranty holds/punch lists to customers when corrective action is necessary.
  • Work with company Senior Technical Advisor on all related projects.



QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (minimum)

5 years' prior experience in HVAC design or HVAC manufacturing industry (minimum)

Strong communication, writing and interpersonal skills

Proven knowledge of HVAC terminology

Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word

Ability to work on a team

Focused, ambitious and goal-oriented

Proficiency in CAD preferred
