Job Description

Press Brake Operator

Cranston, RI

First shift

$22-25/hr. (based on experience)

Summary

The Press Brake Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, or tending woodworking or metal fabrication machines, such as drill presses, lathes, shapers, routers, sanders, planers, and wood drilling machines. May operate computer numeric controlled (CNC) equipment. Operators make sure their machines are working at full capacity, are stocked with needed materials, are well-maintained and perform periodic checks on output. The finished product is reviewed to ensure it is defect-free and ready for the next step in production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safety Sensitive position.
  • Set up and operate machines such as brakes, rolls, sheers, saws, and presses.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and engineering specifications.
  • Select, position, and secure blades, cutters, and fixtures onto machine.
  • Observe the operation of machine and adjust the action or programming if needed.
  • Make minor repairs and adjustments to machines and notify supervisor when major service is required.
  • Maintain cleanliness in assigned area.
  • Maintain all safety standards.
  • Support other departments, as necessary.
  • Perform additional assignments in accordance with the Shop Supervisor’s direction.
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

Education and Work Experience Qualifications/ Requirements

 

  • Able to see a flat part shape, in a part drawing, visually see the bend lines of that part and imagine what that part would look like after it gets bent.
  • Reading dimension on a drawing to understand where the bends need to be
  • Reading dimensions in inches and calculating them in decimals,. 1 ½” = 1.5 / 2 ¼” = 2.25” / 1 3/8” = 1.375 and so on,..
  • Then they would enter those dimensions into the machine which sets the back stops,. Then loading the flat pieces of metal into the machine while ensuring they are against the backstops,.
  • Afterwards, they measure the piece and confirm it watches the drawings,.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, and maintenance.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work in a demanding, multi-task environment.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers and vendors.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Trained in lockout/tagout (LOTO).
  • Demonstrate hands-on shop floor experience in both metal and wood manufacturing.
  • Minimum of one (2) year of related experience
