The Computer Science Teacher and STEAM Studio Specialist will bring girl-centered approaches to the teaching of computer science to middle school students, including robotics, maker, and engineering design processes. This role creates capacity for building, generating and creating across the curriculum, including interdisciplinary experiences for faculty and students.

Principal Position Responsibilities/Duties
  • Teach Middle School Computer Science and other courses in related departments and disciplines as needed.
  • Manage programming and materials in the STEAM Studio and support MS/US faculty in learning how to use the tools and related teaching approaches independently
  • Develop and facilitate student and faculty-facing STEAM programming and access to the STEAM Studio for design and fabrication, and events like the school Maker Fairs.
  • Collaborate with the Program Team, Learning Innovation team, Science & Mathematics departments to continue to build a student-centered, integrated computer science scope and sequence for all students in grades Pre-K-12 that builds upon existing programming, enhances offerings for students, and embraces what is best for girls.
  • Review and ensure cohesive programming and complementary curriculum that provides students an opportunity to explore design thinking principles and practice architecture, construction, engineering, textile design, wood fabrication and other related disciplines.
  • Participate in the life of the school by serving as an advisor, Parliamentor (MS advisory), coach, club advisor, or similar role.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Necessary
  • Experience teaching computer science in a PK12 setting preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in STEAM related field required; Master's degree preferred
  • Facility with maker tools such 3D CAD design, 3D Print and Laser technology, etc.
  • Proven experience in bringing new ideas from ideation to implementation
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and demonstrates respect for different values and viewpoints
