MWT Core Drilling Operator/Driller

Job Duties/Description

MWT operates four Core Drilling Rigs for the Warrior MetCoal Mines in West/Central Alabama. These rigs drill down in excess of 1000’ in order to obtain coal core samples for the Mine. These samples give Warrior MetCoal an indication of the direction and depths at which they will need to mine in the future. Each of these Core Drilling Rigs are comprised of a Core Drilling Operator (Driller) and at least one Core Drilling Assistant.

Below is a list of the job duties for the Core Drilling Operator/Driller. This list is not an all-inclusive list. The Core Drilling Operator/Driller is directed daily by the Core Drilling Superintendent. At this time, Robert “Bob” Roach is the Core Drilling Superintendent. This Superintendent has the responsibility of directing all four of the Core Drilling Teams.


Requirements:

Please find the duties/requirements as follows:

  • Must work within MWT and MSHA Safety Guidelines and ensure that crew does as well
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Class B—CDL’s would be a plus (clean driving record—current Alabama Driver's License is a must)
  • Able to work outside in weather extremes (heat, cold, and rain)
  • Experience in welding/torching/cutting would be a plus
  • Lifting up to 75lbs.
  • Climbing ladders and up and down off trucks/trailers
  • Working knowledge of core rig operation and understanding of the equipment
  • Use coring rig to drill and for tripping in/out core drill stems and samples
  • Tightening/loosening sections of pipe/core bits
  • Familiarity with equipment operations (trucks, forklifts, lifting equipment, rigging experience)
  • Provide daily direction for Operator Assistant.
  • Responsible for ensuring routine maintenance on the rig and all support equipment
  • Ensure that equipment is prepared for cold weather at the end of shifts
  • Willingness to assess situations and give direction and work on a team, sometimes with little supervision
  • Primarily day shift hours, but can be long days in excess of 12 hr. Night shift work may be required if the particular job/project dictates it.
  • Est. starting rate $20/hr.—may be negotiable with experience and qualifications
