Job Description

ROLE MISSION
The Battery Engineer: Electrochemistry will report directly to the CTO and is entrusted with the mission to lead and inspire technological excellence, propelling ADVANO to the forefront of innovation in the battery materials and energy storage space, with a specific focus on advancing REALSi technologies.  

This role will primarily focus on designing, executing, and analyzing experiments involving electrochemical characterization and diagnostic testing of battery cells. The ideal candidate for this role should possess a strong background in electrochemistry, with experience in designing and conducting experiments related to battery cell diagnostics. They should have a deep understanding of electrochemical characterization techniques and be proficient in analyzing experimental data. Additionally, excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Preferred qualifications include a Ph.D. in Electrochemistry or Material Science & Engineering; however, candidates with an MS/BS degree and relevant experience are encouraged to apply. 

  • A focus on battery processes such as materials, control, and construction is required. Additionally, applicants should have a minimum of 3 years of experience in industry or development labs working with lithium-ion or similar battery materials and processes. 

  • Proficiency in electrochemical testing techniques, including battery cycling methods, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, etc. 

  • Deep understanding of electrochemical processes in Lithium-ion batteries, encompassing battery design, manufacturing, reliability, and testing. 

  • Knowledge of electrochemical kinetics and the role of transport phenomena in battery performance. 

  • Familiarity with battery materials and their properties, such as electrode materials, electrolytes, and separators. 

  • Understanding of failure mode analysis techniques in electrochemical systems. 

  • Prior experience in industry or development labs working with lithium-ion or similar battery materials and processes. 

  • Previous involvement in projects related to battery materials development and characterization. 

  • Experience setting up and managing a battery electrochemical test facility. 

  • Hands-on experience in battery assembly and teardown techniques for coin/pouch cells. 

  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot electrochemical testing equipment. 

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, capable of identifying and addressing issues in battery materials and processes. 

  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills. Proficiency in software tools for data analysis and report generation.
