Bench Jeweler

Walker Metalsmiths Celtic Jewelry is a workshop and retail store has been evolving for the past forty years. We have been established in the present location since 1992. Our team currently includes six jewelers and apprentices, four sales and customer service professionals and a staff photographer.

Our studio/workshop is equipped for most methods of traditional hand fabrication and bench techniques as well as CAD, 3D Printing, in-house casting, laser welding and laser engraving. Our most senior craftsman, owner Stephen Walker, brings over 50 years of experience to the workshop. Tom Carter, who has worked for us since 2019, has been in the industry for 39 years, during which time he previously was a production manager at a large manufacturer and head jeweler for a regional chain with fourteen stores.

We are looking for a bench jeweler with design experience. All experience and skill levels will be considered. Experience with CAD design and familiarity with Matrix would be appreciated, but is not required. An appreciation for Celtic Art and Design would also be beneficial.

Job Duties will include: Lost wax casting, polishing, jewelry fabrication, stone setting, jewelry repair, wax modeling, and potentially CAD and custom jewelry design.

There may be some occasional interaction with customers regarding custom jewelry projects, but this is primarily a bench jeweler position.

While experience is a factor we are looking for someone who will work well as part of a small team of skilled craftsmen and designers. We are willing to provide on the job training for the right candidate. All equipment is provided including laser welder, laser engraver, pulse arc welder, and bench tools. There is a shop dog present at this location.

This is a family owned and operated business. Andover is a very small, rural village in Allegany County, near the Finger Lakes region. The nearest metropolitan cities are Rochester, an hour and a half to the north and Buffalo, two hours northwest. Alfred University, with its international reputation for ceramics, is eight miles away. Corning, NY, the center of glass technology and art is fifty miles to the east.
