IT Systems Engineer

Summary:
The IT Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance and support of networks and systems infrastructure across the organization. Additionally, researches, evaluates, recommends, tests and implements new technologies, features, upgrades and configuration changes to satisfy business objectives.

This role ensures the reliability, availability, scalability and security of network and other infrastructure elements required for ongoing operations and customer service.

The position can work remotely but must be local and willing to travel to our data center in Franklin Park, IL and our branch in Wood Dale, IL.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

• Infrastructure design and implementation
  • Support the development of technical infrastructure roadmaps including device lifecycle management.
  • Research, evaluate and recommend new technologies, features, upgrades and configurations.
  • Ensure IT infrastructure reliability, availability, scalability and security as well as compliance with organizational policies
• System management and maintenance
  • Manage and maintain technical infrastructure systems and resources, both on premises and cloud based, including the data center, network, servers, storage, WAN connectivity and telephony elements
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain network, server and endpoint devices
  • Ensure supported IT infrastructure elements are stable and available for ongoing business operations and implement appropriate monitoring, notification and escalation systems are in place to deliver those service levels
  • Monitor system performance and capacity planning to meet current and future needs
  • Plan and execute system upgrades, migrations, and disaster recovery strategies
• Security and compliance
  • Implement and enforce security policies and procedures
  • Monitor infrastructure elements for security threats and vulnerabilities
  • Ensure compliance with system security standards and data protection and privacy regulations (e.g. GDPR, HIPAA)
• Collaboration and support
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure seamless integration and operation of the entire IT infrastructure
  • Provide escalated support and troubleshooting assistance for system related issues and initiatives
• Adhere to established project management methodology, SDLC, support and service management policies and procedures, ensuring activities are fully documented for auditing and future support purposes.

Required for consideration:

• Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
• 5+ years of hands-on technical experience with 2+ years of professional experience as an IT Systems Engineer or equivalent experience
• Proficient in server administration and management, including experience with server operating systems; virtualization technologies such as VMware; DNS/DHCP; Active Directory and Azure AD
• Strong understanding of network design and administration including firewalls, switches, routers, and SD-WAN technologies
• Understanding of cyber security best practices and technologies
• Familiarity with storage solutions and technologies, monitoring systems and disaster recovery

Highly desirable candidates may also have:

• Relevant industry standard certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Windows Server Hybrid Administrator; CompTIA Server+, VCP
• PowerShell scripting experience
• Experience in design and management of VOIP telephony systems
