Special Olympics Kansas Marketing & Communications Internship

Position Title: Marketing & Communications Intern

Location: Mission, KS (Virtual options in Kansas available as necessary)

Overview: As a Communications Intern with Special Olympics Kansas (SOKS), you will play a vital role in enhancing our public relations, media relations, marketing, and event planning efforts. By collaborating closely with our team, you'll contribute to strengthening SOKS's presence statewide and raising awareness about our impactful programs and fundraisers, particularly in the realm of Health & Fitness initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in crafting compelling media materials, including press releases, media alerts, fact sheets, and media lists.
  • Create engaging written content for various platforms, including publications, websites, and electronic newsletters.
  • Contribute to graphic design projects for publications and collateral materials.
  • Support special event planning efforts and develop promotional strategies for events.
  • Drive social media growth and engagement through regular updates and community interaction.
  • Provide on-site assistance at SOKS events, including setup, photography, media relations, and story gathering.
  • Aid in event coordination and manage media requests during our State Summer Games.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications:

  • Ideally a Junior or Senior in college residing within the State of Kansas.
  • Proficiency in social media planning platforms such as Meta Business Suite, Hootsuite, or Sprout Social.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Exceptional writing skills, including proficiency in AP style.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proactive attitude.
  • Basic web, photography, and videography skills are advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently when necessary.
  • Willingness to work occasional weekends, and evenings, and travel within the state.
  • Completion of Coach/Volunteer Orientation training, application, and Online Protective Behaviors training.
  • Flexible availability, with up to 20 hours per week, tailored to accommodate academic and personal schedules.

Scheduling: Internship scheduling aligns with the academic calendar, offering fall, spring, and summer programs to accommodate students' educational requirements.

Compensation: This is a paid internship, offering a monthly stipend of $1000. SOKS supports interns seeking academic credit and encourages collaboration with educational institutions.
