Job Description

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reports directly to Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for completing all duties and tasks assigned to them before their normal work shift ends. Signs off on safety commitments.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED

  1. Obey GMP's and PPE's for production areas.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Repairs and maintains, in accordance with operation manuals and manufacturer's specifications, machinery, and mechanical equipment, such as, conveyor systems, and production equipment, by using hand, power tools, and precision measuring equipment.
  2. Perform preventive maintenance on equipment such as conveyors, case and pallet strappers and sealers under the supervision of master mechanics.
  3. Attends company scheduled training classes.
  4. Complies with company and OSHA safety rules and regulations.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned by maintenance supervisor or engineering manager.
  6. Perform mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical maintenance
  7. Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment
  8. Test malfunctioning machinery, determine repairs and discuss with maintenance supervisor, as needed
  9. Replace faulty parts, electrical wires, motors, controls, and circuit boards
  10. Install equipment and electrical components and test to ensure proper functioning
  11. Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, technical manuals, pneumatic schematics, and equipment specifications
  12. Repair, rebuild, adjust, inspect and monitor production and/or facility related equipment and machinery
  13. Clean and lubricate parts/equipment to ensure proper operation
  14. Operate a variety of hand and power tools to repair, grease, cut, change parts, etc.
  15. May provide guidance to less experienced maintenance technicians
  16. Interact constructively as a team member supporting team goals and objectives
  17. Effectively make decisions relative to job duties/responsibilities
  18. Maintain clean equipment/work area and work safely to promote operational safety by example in work habits
  19. Must be self-motivated with great work ethic

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must have strong mechanical, electrical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment. Examples include: experience with high/low voltage electrical systems, mechanical filling and packaging equipment, robotics, PLC's and computer information systems. Strong assessment and troubleshooting skills (mechanical, electrical, and process). Solid understanding of maintenance systems to include preventative maintenance and CMMS. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Technical School Certificate or Military training in one of the following disciplines:

Electrical or Electronics Systems, Industrial Controls or Manufacturing Systems, Mechanical Systems

Formal training in one or more of the following: air conditioning, welding, machining, auto repair, electronics or industrial mechanics. Additional years of experience may substitute for training.

Mechanical knowledge: minimum 5 years in manufacturing maintenance

Electrical: 3 years (preferred)

PLC: 2 years (preferred)

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Must have previous job experience and be able to communicate and read. Know functions of plant equipment. Be able to perform timely repairs and follow preventive maintenance schedules. Must cooperate fully with other maintenance personnel and supervisors to insure timely operation of plant equipment. Must maintain a current drivers' license and good driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is sometimes exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and potential exposure to sulphuric acid (electric battery), potential exposure to carbon monoxide from propane fueled forklift. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
