Marina Dock Attendant

This position is responsible for assisting the Dockmaster in overseeing the overall operation of the marina. Must be able to work odd hours, weekends and holidays.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Must be able to handle most operations at the marina without supervision. Work is performed under the general direction of the Dockmaster.
- Responsible for collecting feels and assigning dockage and anchorage.
- Safely operates pump and tender operations as required.
- Assists with coordinating reservations and accepting fees in a professional and courteous manner.
- Assists Dockmaster with the care of docks, buildings, facilities, and grounds and ensuring all safety procedures are being followed.
- Maintains constant clean-up of the marina, buildings, grounds, docks, public restrooms and boater restrooms.
- Empties trash containers, picks up trash, cigarette butts, and other rubbish as required.
- Exercises expertise in customer and public relations.
- Assists in docking or departing and of conditions, berth, and procedures.
- Maintains surveillance of the marina and vessels arriving, staying, or departing the marina.
- Assists with maintenance and repair of floating docks and gangways.
- All other duties as may be assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
- Knowledge of file and records management principles.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Knowledge of basic power tools.
- Knowledge or the ability to learn boating/marina terminology and basic knowledge of dock regulations.
- Skills in basic boat handling.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in maintaining cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Dockmaster assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of customer relations and familiarity of power or sailing vessels, and nautical terms.
- The purpose of this position is the operation and maintenance of the marina facility. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.

- Contacts are typically with the general public, co-workers, and other city personnel.
- Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, or to resolve problems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- May be required to work odd hours, weekends and holidays.
- The work is typically performed mostly outside in all weather conditions, with long periods of standing. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects up to 50 pounds, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
- Must be able to swim.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required; and
- Some experience in marina or boating operation; or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience to provide the required skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform the work.
- Possession of a valid state driver’s license issued for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Some experience in customer service.
