Job Description

KPERS is located in Topeka, Kansas and full-time remote work is not available. After six months, the Benefits Analyst may be allowed to work remotely on Fridays.

KPERS' Benefits Representatives must be committed to customer service. They are responsible for counseling members, employers and others who contact the System. KPERS staff provide members with the information they need to make informed decisions and get the most from their benefits. They also help KPERS employers with membership information, so their employees get the benefits that are due to them.

Essential Responsibilities

Counsels members, beneficiaries, attorneys and employers over the telephone. Provides all pertinent information for members so they can make informed decisions in selecting their retirement and or disability benefits, insurance options, conversions, and purchase of service credit. Responsible for assisting employers and other persons having an interest in the Retirement System. Provides the most current information regarding updates in benefits, laws, services and forms.

Counsels and assists members and other interested parties who come into the Retirement System's office about KPERS benefits, including but not limited to, retirement, withdrawal, service credit purchases, beneficiaries, death claims and tax information. Calculates benefit estimates upon request.

Provides excellent customer service experience through resolution of questions and requests. Performs a wide range of tasks and takes personal initiative to find answers and solutions for callers and visitors.

Performs other duties and special projects as assigned to meet the objectives of the Benefits and Member Services Division and the Retirement System.

Experience and Education Required

Two years of experience interacting with clients, customers or the public in a customer service, call center, social service or problem resolution setting. Applicants should have experience performing mathematical calculations, analyzing files for benefits or payments, and managing high-volume workloads. Proficiency speaking Spanish is a plus. Degree in business administration, public administration, accounting, or related field is a plus. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

  • Ability to compare figures accurately and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office products including Microsoft Word and Excel.
